To think hunger wellies are crap?

I bought a pair last September to use on the yard and they are cracked and split and literally coming apart at the seams! The shop I bought them from has ceased trading so hunter want proof of purchase. I can probably find that on my statements, but it's obvious from looking at the soles they've not been overused as there's loads of treads left! What a pile of shite they are!

Are you sure they're genuine?

Sparrowlegs248 · 06/04/2014 12:02

Yanbu. Hunters used to be the best. Then they were bought out, became trendy and turned to shite. I had a pair (I won them - should have been 140!! 14 yrs ago) which last 9 years before the sole started coming away from the rest of the welly. Still fine in all other respects but leaky. Bought some more - not the same model - they split after about 6 weeks.

I have Musto now. They are brilliant. One pair split after 9 months and Musto replaced them immediately even though i couldn't find the receipt. I just had to email photos.

I shall look them up. I need decent wellies for the yard and show fields etc.

Hunters are shit. Used to be great but since production was moved to China they don't last five minutes. I now have Aigle.

diddl · 06/04/2014 12:04

The pair I had were rubbish also.

Used them to walk the dog.

Partly pavement, partly fields.

The sole wore down ridiculously quickly.

Manchesterhistorygirl · 06/04/2014 12:05

I have an aigle sweater it is nearly 13 years old and in good as new condition! Thanks.

Le Chameu are the only wellies I would buy now. Had to be persuaded to buy them 14 years ago when my not available in the UK Ariats suffered fork related injury. I've worn them almost every single day since then and am now skating around on polished soles. Bought a pair of now available in the UK Ariats last year but quickly reverted back to the Le Chameu's. Warm in winter, cool in summer, easy to take on and off and have outperformed expectations.

ExitPursuedByABear · 06/04/2014 12:30

I tried le chameau on but was not impressed. Maybe I should try harder.

ILiveInAPineappleCoveredInSnow · 06/04/2014 12:35

Go for muckmaster - a million times more comfortable than hunter and will last you years!!!

BlackeyedSusan · 06/04/2014 12:37

my tescos ones lasted longer than that. Smile

RubyRain · 06/04/2014 12:43

I was going to say what the heck are hunger wellies. Thought it was a naff new diet craze or something Grin

morchoxplz · 06/04/2014 12:54

My hubby bought me a pair when we moved to the sticks. Sooo comfy I loved them but...they have split by the heel and let in water.

pigsinmud · 06/04/2014 12:58

Yanbu. I bought a pair about 3 years ago for walking the dog. They split within 8 months. I wrote and complained and they said well if you wear them every day it's not unexpected.
2 years ago I bought a pair of Muck boot wellies and they are fab.

NoraRobertsismyguiltypleasure · 06/04/2014 12:59

Muck Boots are the business, bit pricey at £60, but they last well and are incredibly comfortable.

GlaikitFizzog · 06/04/2014 13:02

I'm jealous you can all get wellies that fit your calves. I have tiny feet but huge calves. Even fat calf e wellies don't fit. I have to buy 2 sizes bigger in the feet. Then they rub and blister. I wear my walking boots now.

TypicaLibra · 06/04/2014 13:03

Never had them because can see how quickly other people's pairs wear out that they're shite.

I get Dunlop ones - cost about £17 from local farm store, dead comfy and due to the nature of my work I probably wear them more than anything else. They last for months if not years. They can cope with endless cow shit and pressure-hosing.

pigsDOfly · 06/04/2014 13:06

I paid £12.99 for my wellies from a local garden centre about 18 months ago. Worn them every day for walking the dog, on pavement, in fields and woods.

They are totally comfortable and there's not a sign of wear.

Dunlop ones can often be found in shoezone for a tenner if you look in the men's dept Wink DS wears these and he's an official shoe destroyer.

diddl · 06/04/2014 13:09

Do Dunlops hacve soles that don't wear down easily even if frequently used on pavements?

TypicaLibra · 06/04/2014 13:27

diddl, mine are subjected to the rigours of the concrete milking parlour for at least a couple of hours a day and I've never noticed the soles wearing down.

Bea · 06/04/2014 13:31

ha! ha! I thought Katniss Everdeen had bought out her own range of designer wellies....!!!

Nomama · 06/04/2014 13:40

Mine are Joules, they have a bow to tie them up at the front - so they fit my calves nicely.

They weren't my first choice (nor my 19th), I tried them on just to have tried in every welly in Countrywide. They were so comfy I bought them!

bochead · 06/04/2014 15:11

diddl - DS is the child that wore out a pair of mountain warehouse walking shoes in less than 10 days just walking around town last year, yet his wellies have lasted all winter if that helps. No pair of Clarks school shoes has ever lasted longer than 5 weeks before being ready for the tip. Based on that I'd say Dunlop wellies were as good as you are gonna get. (DS has SN's so is really heavy on his shoes). He mostly lives in leather karrimoor hiking boots or wellies this time of year.
