To think hunger wellies are crap?

I bought a pair last September to use on the yard and they are cracked and split and literally coming apart at the seams! The shop I bought them from has ceased trading so hunter want proof of purchase. I can probably find that on my statements, but it's obvious from looking at the soles they've not been overused as there's loads of treads left! What a pile of shite they are!

I had exactly the same thing happen to me with a pair of hunter wellies. A massive split across the sole after a few months they didn't want to know about refunding me. I also had a pair of mountain warehouse sandals disintegrate in the space of a month. My husband has had the same pair of dunlops for 20 years.

Only the yummy mummies in Hampstead wear Hunters now.

For the poster who struggled to get wellies to fit her calves, I have some fantastic short wellies from Decathlon. they have a fleecy lining that goes in the washing machine, so you can wear them with normal socks, and they are really light weight, a bit like crocs. They also come in a huge range of colours and are only about 15 quid. I've had mine about 3 years, they dont get as much wear as some of you a talking about, but have lasted better than the last 3 pairs Of other wellies I have had.

I was given a pair of Hunter wellies in 1982, and I finally had to throw them away last year after I ripped the back off one of them on a garden fork. The modern Hunters are nothing like the quality and fit of the old ones (I have big calves too, modern Hunters aren't roomy enough). Style over substance these days.

ILiveInAPineappleCoveredInSnow · 07/04/2014 10:18

Big calves also fit in muckboot muckmasters as they have neoprene tops!

Manchesterhistorygirl · 07/04/2014 12:07

Well I have emailed photos as they suggested and my god, but they're knackered. For something that costs so much, they should last so much longer.

As others have said, they used to be brill but are rubbish now. I have Aigle and they are fab.

TheBigBumTheory · 07/04/2014 13:06

I have lowthers which get good reviews on amazon. They are tall and slim and they last well. If you got them mucky enough you can't read the labels anyway Grin

EatDessertFirst · 07/04/2014 13:52

Another Dunlop wearer here! Great quality and excellent value.

iloveeverton · 07/04/2014 14:09

My Hunters are going strong after 2 years, use them most days to walk dog for an hour.

Rupertandfifi · 07/04/2014 14:15

I have various wellies for various jobs! (Joules, dunlop and a very old pair of noras)
I have never liked the hunters - overpriced for what you get. Your post has made me glad I didnt go for a pair last time I was in the market for a posher welly. needs to get out more

Manchesterhistorygirl · 07/04/2014 16:48

I do like dunlops for their durability, but they flap around and annoy me. Oh well we start the show season in a couple of weeks, so will test drive lots of pairs there. I bought mine to do a job, not as a bloody accessory btw, I have a diy livery yard and my own horses so need something study and thought I'd treat myself to a properly good pair of boots.
