Because it's met with a chorus of people who make a point of heavily stating their preference for raspberries over strawberries in a manner that suggests they are the only ones who can tell the different?

Or has sleep deprivation finally finished off any tolerance whatsoever?

TheRealAmandaClarke · 05/04/2014 18:44

We have strawberry plants give the most delicious strawberries. Can't beat freshly picked fruit

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2014 18:50

I could just eat some Rhubarb Crumble with double cream now....

TheLadyMarion · 05/04/2014 18:52

You are all wrong.

Nice sharp blackeberries is what you want.

Bring on autumn.

ouryve · 05/04/2014 18:57

Raspberries taste nicer than strawberries and smell delicious, but they're completely ruined by the damned seeds. It's not just the fact that they stick in your teeth, it's the feeling when you crunch on them [shudder]

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2014 18:58

I love Blackberries but don't like the seeds.

Quangle · 05/04/2014 19:08

Raspberries clearly always better Angry

Don't mind blackberries picked stolen from a bush somewhere but the ones you get in the supermarket are too weird - enormous and stretched and like a Dr Who alien with hundreds of bulbous black eyes. They have clearly come here to destroy mankind and rule over the earth with their evil bulbousness.

TheEmpress · 05/04/2014 19:16

The worst thing about strawberries is she people produce them for pudding and expect you to swoon. Gah! I like them for snacking, but not for pudding!

TheLadyMarion · 05/04/2014 19:24

Arf at Quangle.

I grow really nice blackberries on my allotment. No skill involved. But yes they are trying to take over...I will watch the little beggars carefully.

LydiaLunches · 05/04/2014 19:29

We are nearly bankrupted by the dcs capacity for doughnut peaches and berries of all descriptions, thank god dh is a grocer!

Sicaq · 05/04/2014 19:32

You're all wrong. Ripe apricots are the BEST.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 05/04/2014 20:00

Ooh blackberries, yes, I love those too. We grow the fat ones. They're fabulous IMHO.
Blueberries are quite dull things to eat, but a pretty colour and the DCs love them.

Buy frozen raspberries and defrost... Much cheaper. Divine. I do like strawberries though. But not gooseberries .... Bluegh!

growingolddicustingly · 05/04/2014 20:04

I have wild blackberry bushes outside my house and a corporation cherry tree at the end of the road. I love picking the fruit before the pigeons get to it. Free food for jam and vodkas.

AtYourCervix · 05/04/2014 20:07

I like a nectarine

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 05/04/2014 20:10

YAB Unhinged, definitely!

You are also seriously unreasonable to be shortening the names of the fruit to strawbs and rasps. It sets my teeth on edge completely.

MinesAPintOfTea · 05/04/2014 20:10

No raspberries here, I fail to grow them. But we'll have some strawberries from the hanging baskets bird feeders and hundreds of wild blackberries from the plants that are trying to take over through the fence.

WitchWay · 05/04/2014 20:10

I slightly prefer rasps to strawbs, like currants of all colours & gooseberries. Agree peaches can be furry & odd - like eating mice - prefer nectarines. Blackberries are my favourite though Grin

WallyBantersJunkBox · 05/04/2014 20:11

Dreading? Really?Grin

LaurieFairyCake · 05/04/2014 20:13

Strawberries all the way

The warm sweetness that you can see has no insects in it

Bloody raspberries always have wee bugs trying to hide imside

CombineBananaFister · 05/04/2014 20:19

Why do people heavily state they prefer raspberries to strawberries OP? Is it because Strawberries are considered common or summat? Like : 'my Dc only eat Kumquats' Hmm type thing?
I only ask because 'oop North' here and never heard such a thing? Fruit is fruit and usually delicious from a PYO farm and I'd be happy as long as the DS was filling his basket (face) Blush with anything reasonably healthy! Grin

TheRealAmandaClarke · 05/04/2014 20:20

like eating mice [Waaahh]

In my back garden I grow blueberries, raspberries, red currants, black currants, joster berries, gooseberries & for Mother's Day I had a fruit cherry tree! I love all British fruit & enjoy being able to grow my own summer pudding!
I never had much success growing strawberries though Sad

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/04/2014 20:24

Doughnut peaches are the best fruit ever.
