Why would any parent put money on the grand national for DC

Seen this a lot of FB, I don't bet on horses ( that a whole different thread)

But why would parents encourage DC to bet on this race.

why wouldn't they? its a bit of fun.

My parents did it for me, I still only bet once a year.

Because to me you got to be 18 to bet on horses and 18 to collect any winning.

I think it gives children the impression that it's ok to break the law.

I'm with sirzy, I still only bet once a year and one of my earliest memories is how excited I was when my horse won when I was about 5.

We've just stuck a quid on a horse for our kids

Our parents did it for us too. It's just a bit of fun and adds some excitement...we do the same with the Oxford/Cambridge boat race.

Those are the only two times of the year any of us gamble.

And it's not breaking the law either as far as I know.

Because it's once a year and the only time we ever bet on anything.

My dad used to bet on the national for both me and my sister when we were little. It was a bit of fun. I don't bet on it now nor did it encourage me to break the law.

They aren't actually placing the bet so they aren't breaking the law anyway.

I also have fond memories of going with my Mum to bingo at the church hall.

Kids weren't allowed to play so she'd give me a different coloured pen and let me play her used cards.

If I got a line she'd give me 5p, or 10p for a full house

YABU - it's a bit of fun, we've placed a bet online for our 2 dd's. We paid the stake so not against the law and it's a bit of fun.

We also went to the family day at Ascot last year which was also lots of fun, especially for our dd's as they got to meet Ant and Dec.

I put 1 pound each in a horse for DS and DSD this weekend. It's a bit of fun, we watch it together and enjoy it.

Always do this. My Ddad has just phoned to ask what horses the kids want to bet on.

We like a good tradition here.

They do bingo at ds's school for maths, they can win sweets too.

I'm going to call the police and get the bastards done for illegal gambling with minors and sugar pushing.

My dad loves the horse racing and always put bets on the Grand National for us when we were small. It was fun watching it with him. Today i have placed bets for my family. Me - i placed the bets. The horses are nominally for my DH and DD's too but i placed the bets therefore it is not against the law.
