AIBU to buy a tumble drier.

I have been without a tumble dryer for 17 years. I have 4 kids and work full time.

Bear in mind that I am well tight, but I have a dream that a tumble dryer will make my life better.

Should I loosen my purse strings, or continue living like a Victorian?

Its a 7kg 1200 spin machine. It's pretty good I have to say. I am getting an 8kg indeset condenser. I can't bloody wait. I toyed with a cheaper compact one, but I am going with what will make life easier for me. I have a full washing basket waiting for it.

YANBU, I couldn't survive without mine!

God I love mine. When I had two in terry nappies it was a godsend. I mean Terries dry brilliantly on the line in the summer, but are basically an ever loving nightmare in winter. Half an hour in the tumble dryer and they were dry and soft and fluffy. Aaah.

We have ours stacked on the washer in the utility room. Terribly handy.

It's 2014. Why would you not have one?! Buy and enjoy!

RunnerBeen · 05/04/2014 19:52

I've never had one, i use my 60 year old (or more) clothes horse and a plastic one i inherited from a neighbour. Or i put stuff outside. I only have one child though and a warm house so stuff dries quickly.

I admit i have been known to dry something i meed with the hairdryer if i am in a hurry, but it's not enough to make me go out and buy one.

My mum has one, it basically gets used as a table to accomodate the ironing basket.

love mine.

I quite like it when it rains in the summer and i'm forced to put the wet washing in the tumble drier. I won't use the drier in the summer normally as its so expensive but if its raining, well i've just got to use it.

Oh. My. God. It is amazing. Amazing. Why have I waited so long? It's like witchcraft.

Brilliant! Grin

I have to say I am always secretly pleased when it rains these day.

From hamper to clean and put away in under 2 hours makes things much easier.

Though I love a heat furnace 40+ day as well for much the same reason.

Bogeyface · 07/04/2014 00:38

Arent they brilliant?!

As for your other half suggesting a rotary I would have said "YEs darling! Thank you ssoooooo much for deciding to do all of the laundry!"

I think everyone should have one, but when you give birth to your 3rd child they should come free in the Bounty pack, I would have given them my details for that :o

GreenPetal94 · 07/04/2014 10:49

I have always had a tumble dryer and I love it for towels, sheets and used to use it for baby and toddler clothes. But now I avoid using it for T shirts etc as they tend to shrink or at least last less time.

nowahousewife · 07/04/2014 11:22

Just scanned this thread, of course you need a dryer! Husband, teenagers and you work! Also never understand now anyone in this wet country can live without one, can't stand houses with washing hung out everywhere, just no!

Don't know about bounce sheets but I use supermarket own brand ones and they smell good but more importantly reduce the static in man made fibre's.

Enjoy your tidy new house!

HypodeemicNerdle · 07/04/2014 15:03

Loving your update Grin
I have mine on the go today, it's fab isn't it! Laundry just became one of the nicer jobs to do

I adore my TD. I was distraught when I thought that we weren't going to be able to fit it into our new house but as it's a condenser, we just stuck it in the smallest bedroom. We don't have much outside space (literally about 10' x 6' ) with half-height walls, no existing line and nowhere to put either a rotary driver or poles for an ordinary line, so it would have been back to the days of a house full of airers and the radiators blasting away - no thank you!
