To start TTC ( DD is one)

All my family seem to think it is too early / mad etc etc
We are financially able and in a good relationship. I wish to get back to making a career for myself in next few years ...
I also desire dc close in age as I feel in the long run it will be benificial.

I just feel like yet again I am questioning my decision as my family are really not encouraging it (i have my dd vast majority of time, she is rarely babysat by any family).

Is it really so mental to start ttc when dc is one?
AIBU to not really see the issue between now and say two years doing it (to me that is just dragging everything out)

TBH, I think if you tell people that you are TTC then you are inviting comment. I wouldn't tell anyone (never told a soul when we were) and wouldn't again as I couldn't face the questions and comments when all that really matters is what we want and how we feel.

Good luck - there are pros and cons to every decision and I'm sure you will make it work!

Mine are 3.3 years apart. It made it easier at the time, but I wish I had spaced them a teeny bit closer together. I think if you're considering the career implications, it makes sense to compress a bit.

emeraldgirl1 it only takes once Wink my dd2 is proof of that, we didn't even try to plan it, happened in a window of reasonable sleeping by dd1 Smile

We have a 23 month gap and though dd1 is not always great at sleeping, she goes in phases (never terrible so never sleep trained) dd2 is way better and much more chilled. dd1 has no jealousy issues, 3 months in and she still adores her baby sister.

Personally I'd rather have 2 in nappies and close together rather than get out of the baby/toddler madness and then have to go back into it. Age was also not on my side, had dd1 at 38 and dd2 at 40.

Yes one dog, I am exactly the same! As miow the at said- I would rather get he hard slog out the way indeed!
I am very excited about ttc which is why I tell people, but I suppose it can invite unwanted comments. So maybe IABU there...

Ah I am so excited! All sounds really positive (and hard!)

Yanbu

Up to you and your dh. Don't discuss it anymore!

I'll have a smidge over 13 months between mine when DC2 comes along in July / August.

We too decided to get the nappy madness out of the way quickly, and I was 36 when I had DD and 37 now, which was also a factor as I just didn't want to leave it any later.

No doubt it'll be totally bonkers for a while, but we will cope!

Go for it, OP :-)

We started ttc again when ds was 6 weeks old, two years later it still hasn't happened. Go for it. If you and your dh are happy don't worry about anyone else.

My DDs are 14 months apart. Im glad I had them close together, best thing I ever did. They're grown up now (aged 19 & 18) and the best of friends as well as sisters, although very different in personality! 2nd pregnancy wasn't planned and I had all the prophets of doom warning that life would be too difficult for me etc etc etc..it was hard. But not unmanageable we tend to get on with these things, don't we? Nobody's business but yours & DPs, Id say go for it. There are also 14 months between my younger brother and I, and my DM lived to tell the tale

Odaat · 05/04/2014 06:51

Thanks everyone. Me and my brother are classed as 'Irish twins' (I am not being offensive here - my dads side are Irish Catholics too, haha)

My mother got really bad pnd because of the small gap - so I see why she would worry for me- but my circumstances are totally different - i have lot of family, friends and I am older and have a good relationship.

Plus the gap will be bigger!
