AIBU to feel bereft that Greggs has gone from my town?

That's it! It has gone. Shuttered up. I thought Greggs was riding the recession really well.

No more sausage rolls. No more Belgian buns. Shit shit shit.

We still have Percy Ingle - but it ain't the same.

I'm sorry OP. Please accept my sympathies at this difficult time.

Sometimes only a Greggs chicken pastie fills the hole and a Belgian bun and a cornflake cake

We have two on the same street. It's great. One is a new trying-to-be-upmarket one with seats inside and wooden shelves and wicker baskets etc. DP and I refer to it as 'Le Gregoire' Grin

OnlyLovers · 04/04/2014 16:58

'Le Gregoire' Grin

I want one!

ephemeralfairy · 04/04/2014 17:37

Artisan innit Grin

areallady · 04/04/2014 22:08

Le Gregoire, ha love that.

Captain, I can't say if yours is having a Le Gregoire moment, but the refurb schedule is pretty extensive......

OnlyLovers · 05/04/2014 12:54

Seriously though, a Greggs you can sit in is my idea of heaven.

MrsDavidBowie · 05/04/2014 13:04

The cheese and onion pasty is wonderful.there used to be a bakers in Leeds called Thurston's who made great ones too

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 05/04/2014 13:09

We have two Greggs. Bugger all else, except for two Costas, a B&M, an Iceland and a Poundland - oh and a Debenhams that it too small to be useful.

They are all of 2 minutes apart.

formerbabe · 05/04/2014 13:18

Gregg's is the sort of place which makes me wish I lived in France with their beautiful patisseries...

Yes I know that sounds twatish but it's true.

We have one (small market town). You can have it if you want. It's shit.

fatlazymummy · 05/04/2014 13:35

Yeah, you can have ours as well. If we can have our much nicer bakers oven back instead.
And I say that as someone who grew up in the town of the original Gregg's.

HillyHolbrook · 05/04/2014 15:29

YANBU, but feel free to take one from us. There are 14 Gregg's in Leeds, there are about 5 or 6 just in the town centre.Wink

Ours have turned into "posh" cafes, too! the branding is all black/grey rather than vivid, classy blue! I don't know who they think they are fooling Grin

I don't much like them. Thomas the Bakers is much better. their Belgian buns are twice the size and all fluffy, and the pasties are cheaper and better, plus there is the social shame aspect of it all. And you get 4 gingerbread men for £1!
