..even if you are 91.

I was having a discreet post prandial nap when the doorbell rang about 5 or 6 times. I opened the door to catch a glimpse of my Dad shuffling off round the side of the house...snorting with laughter.

He was completely unfazed when I told him that April Fool wasn't until tomorrow. He is such a chancer.

Wizardsleeveoh · 01/04/2014 10:12

Hahaha!!
I've always known it as knock down ginger.
I used to 'play' it when I was younger until I was caught and taken to my house to be reprimanded. Good times

You are all wrong - Its "knock 'n' run!" said all sing-songy run together in true black country style Grin

welshnat · 01/04/2014 21:22

I'm quite excited that ours is an original saying Smile

It was known as "bobby door knocking" Grin

I have a naughty need to do this now! Lucky I have a 2 year old in bed so I can't terrorise my neighbours Wink

ziggiestardust · 01/04/2014 21:26

Ahem. The correct phrase is of course, cherry knocking. But there we are Wink

Greenandcabbagelooking · 01/04/2014 21:32

Here (Bucks) we call it knock and bolt. Although there wasn't much bolting going on in the OP.

IamRechargingthankYou · 01/04/2014 21:36

It's posts like this that make me thankful I'm still alive - can't beat a bunch of daffs and an old man at the start of April. Really you can't.

QueenStromba · 01/04/2014 21:43

Thank you MilesFlora - I couldn't remember what we used to call it and it was doing my head in.

Gossipyfishwife · 01/04/2014 22:19

Well I interrogated him about where he got the flowers. He assured me he only picked those he had planted. Fairenuffski.

He then said he was the one who planted the verge. Hmm? He is cunning.

(He loved Countdown today. He plays it differently to everyone else. He just wants to find rude words and shout them out. Please don't out me if you heard him shouting PISS)

rabbitlady · 01/04/2014 23:28

that's 'knock-a-door-run-away' or 'bobby-knocking'.

i'm going to tell my dad. he's only 81.

Darkesteyes · 01/04/2014 23:30

OP your dad sounds fabulous. I bet hes a brilliant laugh at Christmas too.

sashh · 02/04/2014 06:10

Darkesteyes

The last time I played we were completely sober, me a friend and her husband.

It was a combination of sitting in the car with mobile phones ringing the 'victim's' mobile and land line, then someone going to knock on the door while he was answering the landline to nothing.

TwittyMcTwitterson · 02/04/2014 06:22

It's definitely knock a door run. I'm from Stoke originally and we obviously know what's what there.

I too thought this thread was about some one being mean to a ginger person... Shock

ComposHat · 02/04/2014 06:28

Yep defo knock a door run (Midlands) and well done your dad for retaining a sense of fun and impishness.
Is he trying to base his retirement on last of the summer wine? Will he be careering down a hillside in a bath on wheels and trying to chat up Nora Batty? Good for him I say!

Tanith · 02/04/2014 12:53

I once did something similar with DH and his friend. DH's friend always dials 1471 if he just misses a call and rings back if he knows the number.

So I rang him and, just as he picked up, I hung up. Then I hid. Sure enough, the phone rang and DH answered.

The "No I didn't - you rang me!" argument went on for some minutes until DH heard me laughing Grin

LittleDonkeyKong · 02/04/2014 13:48

Ah knock a door run! Brings back memories. I used to do that with friends combined with a bit of Gnome Nabbing!
