..even if you are 91.

I was having a discreet post prandial nap when the doorbell rang about 5 or 6 times. I opened the door to catch a glimpse of my Dad shuffling off round the side of the house...snorting with laughter.

He was completely unfazed when I told him that April Fool wasn't until tomorrow. He is such a chancer.

All these confusing names are giving me the vapours. Carstairs, please bring my (extremely early) postprandial tincture, what ho.

Trinpy · 01/04/2014 00:50

I don't know why it's called knock down ginger but that (or variations like knock knock ginger) is the most popular name for it and there are many many other names as well. Completely useless fact leftover from an English essay I wrote a few years ago.

Don't think it has anything to do with pushing over ginger-haired people though.

WorraLiberty · 01/04/2014 00:58

Trinpy, from my link....

Ginger, Ginger broke a winder
Hit the winda - Crack!
The baker came out to give 'im a clout.
And landed on his back.

Gossipyfishwife · 01/04/2014 01:30

Oh so that's how you connected the Da hitting a flame haired female! Suddenly it makes sense.

Post prandial is a magnificently wanky phrase. Thank you for noticing. I would couple (see what I did there!)it with coitus. Post prandial coitus. Afternoonly delightful.

My aged parent is indeed single. If he started a relationship with your great gran, Eatshit, would that make me your great aunt? I think it would. As a senior member of your family I demand respect, limitless werthers, gin and er ...lots of stuff. Maybe an alibi for your future great grandfather too.

We used to call it a "nick knack". (Dublin)
I must say I had the image of your dad targeting red heads for a friendly punch. He sounds like fun.

MusicalEndorphins · 01/04/2014 01:55

We call it "Nicky Nicky Nine Doors"

No idea why!

steff13 · 01/04/2014 01:56

Here we call it "ding dong ditch." Because you ring the doorbell and run away.

Darkesteyes · 01/04/2014 02:12

Rafa i think he may have been talking about this.....

AnnieMaybe · 01/04/2014 02:40

Knock door run if no letterbox/unworkinking letterbox/just decided to knock the door

Never heard of knock down ginger Grin

Blithereens · 01/04/2014 02:53

Steff ding dong ditch for me too, growing up in the Midlands.

sashh · 01/04/2014 08:39

Knock and run for me.

Never played as a small child, more often played early 20's after drinking.

With the 'first to run loses/buys the next round clause', you knock on doors (one per person) then run to the middle of the street and form a gaggle of drunks and the first person to run away loses.

Pumpkinpositive · 01/04/2014 08:41

I did understand the OP but opened the thread thinking it was going to be about some happy slapping craze against gingers.
