I swear to god I'm going to murder DH if he says this one more time.

How hard. You don't say "Carsh" instead of crash, or "Cerrp" instead of creep. Why do people insist on saying "Ceration/curative/curator" instead of creation/tive/tor?

AIBU?

CerStificate!

One day I'll completely lose it and hit him with the weapon I learned about on a MN Christmas thread - soap in a sock.

lipglossandlashes · 23/03/2014 23:43

I hate ongvelope.

JustAboutAdeqeuate · 23/03/2014 23:51

I say Wensday. Sorry. Do people actually say Wed-nes-day?

I get The Rage with people talking about crutches when they mean crotches. Alas it is a word that comes up a lot in mandatory training. I am usually shaking with barely suppressed rage by the end of the day.

Also (although it's more of a written thing) it is a drawER, not a draw.

80sMum · 23/03/2014 23:53

Chooseday instead of Tuesday.

CalamityKate · 23/03/2014 23:57

Yep. All these.

Also "praformance" instead of "performance". I'm looking at YOU Gary Barlow.

RegainingUnconsciousness · 24/03/2014 00:07

Rest Bite
Used commonly at work by people who should know better

Piscivorous · 24/03/2014 01:11

Also have heard restbite and underminded. I work with a clinical professional who says hospickle which gets me Angry every time

What about prostrate instead of prostate? I am amazed how many men have prostrate problems

clary · 24/03/2014 01:17

And then the thing is kids can't spell these words.

I have lost count of the times I have seen "chester draws" in a list of bedroom furniture (I teach French so we always want to know what's in your room Smile)

steff13 · 24/03/2014 01:21

Oh my gosh, people who say "sennence" instead of "sentence." Angie Harmon does it, and she had to say sentence quite a lot since she played an attorney on Law & Order. Irritating.

Walkacrossthesand · 24/03/2014 01:30

Let me guess, steff13, you're referring in your earlier post to Bristle and the 'trailing L' aren't you - idea(l), area(l), any handily unprotected 'a' in fact! Never heard it anywhere else..

steff13 · 24/03/2014 01:32

I don't know where Bristle is. I live in Cincinnati (Ohio).

Nennypops · 24/03/2014 01:53

DH says "oction" for "auction". I thought it might be a Midlands thing, only I've never heard anyone else say it.

uselessidiot · 24/03/2014 07:27

The rest bite thing makes me want to cry at work. It keeps going in people's notes.

Xh used to scream at me "There's no p in ibrufen you fucking idiot". Even showing him the packet didn't stop him. Apparently the packet was labelled by someone as stupid as me.

Dh keeps pronouncing the x in grand prix. I find it very annoying but haven't said a word.

HappyAgainOneDay · 24/03/2014 07:46

What about 'pronounciation'? Don't those who use it ever see it written down as 'pronunciation'?

austenozzy · 24/03/2014 07:58

My dad has worked in the car trade for half a century but still says citreon and alfa romero. I mention it's every time but her ignores me.

Allergictoironing · 24/03/2014 08:01

My pet hate is words like suit and suite being pronounced "soote" with a long "o". I can sort of cope with it, until I get corrected for pronouncing it correctly! The "u" is there for a reason, and if you can pronounce it in "suet" then why insist it's wrong in other words (mutter mutter swear).

Brufen was the first proper brand of ibuprofen on the market, which is why a fair number of older people use it, same as Panadol for paracetamol. But to be patronisingly told by someone that they HAD to get Panadol as paracetamol wouldn't be as good despite both packets saying they had the identical ingredients, or the same with Neurofen/ibuprofen, makes me scream.

BertieBotts · 24/03/2014 08:03

I suppose the lack of extra o doesn't occur to them Happy. I can forgive that one since the verb is to pronounce.

Also Tuesday and Chooseday sound the same to me Grin Because the combination of T and ue sounds exactly the same as ch oo.

I'm trying to find a video of someone saying "curation" but not having much luck. It's a Warwickshire accent.

A friend of a friend always said 'torlet'
It's fucking TOILET there is no R
I wanted to physically hurt her every time

snakeandpygmy · 24/03/2014 08:24

Wensday is the correct pronunciation

My ex always used to call it Cola cola. But he is an idiot.

EverythingsDozy · 24/03/2014 08:37

How do you pronounce suit if not like 'soote' ?
I get suite is like sweet.

GoodnessIsThatTheTime · 24/03/2014 09:11

There is a sense of curate as in an exhibition or art show that's trickling down to smaller events....

I can't see the vehicle difference and not sure when I say it out loud about chooseday!

wishingchair · 24/03/2014 09:19

People who say "shooge" for "huge".

BertieBotts · 24/03/2014 09:23

Well I suppose you can say Syoot but that is ridiclously posh Grin

I know the actual meaning of curate. But he says it on stuff like "Look what I curated!" "OK we're going to curate a new world [on minecraft]" "Make sure you're playing in kerrative."

Maybe I will just amuse myself by imagining he really means curate or curative.
