To discard Benedict Cumberbatch for Matthew McConaughey in True Detective?

Darling Benedict, I still love you but oh my God, Matthew McConaughey in True Detective. His cold, icy cheekbones of sex. AND in a white vest. Why didn't I see it before?? Now I want to watch everything he's ever done. He's mesmerising in this. Sorry again, Benedict, it will be ok again between us when I sit down to watch my Sherlock box-set, I promise.

Vince! I just got "The King in Yellow" downloaded to my kindle for free! Have a look on amazon and you'll see it. (It's free because it was written in 1895, can you believe?!) I'll have a look at it tonight and get back to you. Of course it's going to be nothing to do with TD really, but it might be fun while I wait for Saturday.

By the way, Lumpy; hypnotic! You are so right. He is. And hot. Does anyone know, can we do those GIF things they have on tumblr here on MN?

Don't let him out of your sight. Look what happened to me and Matthew with Truffleoil about. ;)

Oh, and didn't get a chance to look at TKIY last night, will have a read today while Matthew mows the lawn in his white vest.

are you absolutely sure about this move, I mean, it sounds a bit drastic?? Though I'm very fickle myself, as soon as The Hobbit comes out on DVD I shall doubtless ditch BC (temporarily, of course) and be back all over Richard Armitage.

some more reminders, should you need them. I don't think he's going to get lonely.

(might give True Detective a go, it's set in Louisiana like True Blood, so worth a go on that basis alone, right? Is MM up to Alexander Skarsgaard standards, that's what I want to know.)

I have had the horn for MM for years. Afraid Benedict gives me the creeps, he looks like some kind of talking foetus.

For sheer sex though why does nobody mention Sudan Turner, the Irish vampire in Being Human?

montysma1 · 27/03/2014 09:57

Bloody phone. Aidan Turner

Bloody hell, RiverTam, all these hot pictures of BC make it quite difficult to be true to just one man at a time! Re: True Blood, the theme music and graphics at the start of True Detective (even the title!) are so like True Blood that I searched the names for someone who had worked on that programme, too. Absolutely with you on Alexander Skaarsgard. Especially when he does his commanding in Swedish... God, I sound like an utter slut! Shocking! Yes, I LOVED True Blood too, until it went a bit silly with all the fairyland fluffy-shite. Love the Louisiana accent though. You must read the books by Charlaine Harris, they are amongst the best books I have ever read. She is a fantastic author. There are several discrepancies between those and the TV programme, but the books are better in so many ways. They are well worth reading! (I got the box set on amazon of the first eight and have gradually collected the others. Still to read the last one.) Would heartily recommend them if you liked the series.

Montysma, I had no interest in MM until TD as the young Rust. Can't believe how hot he is. All broody, enigmatic and gorgeous. Likewise, thought BC was 'ok' until he burst through the window, ruffled his hair, took Molly's head in his hands and kissed her. That was when it all changed for me. Apparently so too, for most of the population of the TV watching world. His voice, Monty, just listen to it.
Oh bugger, talking myself back to Benedict.

Haven't watch Being Human since series one, don't know if Aidan Turner is the vampire that was in that, but I will check him out via my other friend, You-Tube. :)

Aidan Turner is effing beautiful. I stopped watching Being Human after he left. He was pretty hot in Desperate Romantics as well. He's going to be in the new version of Poldark for the BBC:

hello tiger

RiverTam · 28/03/2014 12:59

oooh, be still my beating heart! Just announced that to my office, we all squealed Blush.

I also ditched BH after Mitchell exploded in a cloud of greasy hair, but I'm shallow like that - it can come back to bite you on the arse though, I ditched Spooks after Matthew McFadyen left, meaning I missed the Richard Armitage years Sad. He was hot in DR, though a bit chunky for me, I loved him most in season 1 of BH, when he was young and slim and beautiful .

I'm not all that taken by him as Kili, though.

OnlyLovers · 28/03/2014 15:04

Tam, I shall see you on here when Poldark starts and we all gather to perve about it, then Grin

I missed the Matthew MacFadyen years on Spooks. In fact I never saw Spooks. I very much enjoyed MacFadyen's 'work' in Ripper Street though. Those suits? Ding dong.

rocknrollchicken · 28/03/2014 17:11

Im a Woody girl, so to speak. MM has definitely improved since he stopped doing those god awful generic rom-coms - though check him out in Killer Joe - quite hot in a psycho sadist sort of way. True Detectives on my watch list after I finish the hot dirty bad boy filth fest which is Sons of Anarchy Grin

Lottapianos · 28/03/2014 17:49

I've been watching old Sherlock episodes this afternoon and DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN he is sex on legs. Haven't seen no True Detective, have always thought Woody Harrelson was a bit yum but McConaughey doesn't do much for me. Must research further though...

CassCade · 28/03/2014 21:26

Hey, Lottapianos! (The following is to be read in a Louisiana accent - which I am quite good at now, by the way) You have gotta' be watchin' that show. It is soooo good!
Woody is brilliant in this but MM is the hottest hotster of all time. Some people do have feelings for Woody (Vince) but look at MM as Rust Cohle for any length of time and you will see the light.
Re: Sherlock - have you seen episode 1 of series 3 yet???

OP posts:
Lottapianos · 29/03/2014 09:30

Ok Cass, you have convinced me that further research is required!

Series 3 episode 1 - why yes I have, several times. That's the episode where there are too many swoony moments to count and you need a cold flannel, a stiff drink and a dark room to recover.

Nancy66 · 29/03/2014 11:28

I gave up on this after 3 episodes - too slow and plodding for me.

gordyslovesheep · 29/03/2014 11:34

I love TD and I like Sherlock but neither of them rock my world ...

OnlyLovers · 29/03/2014 12:44

I haven't seen TD. I don't fancy Matthew Mahogany. Is it still worth seeking out?

Cass, what swooniness are you referring to in Ep 1 Series 3? Genuine question: I can't think of any. I think Benedict is hot hot potatoes in Ep 2–the wedding suit, the endless close-ups in bright yet flattering sunlight, the long long speech (a minor tour de force, IMO) ...

herladyship · 29/03/2014 12:52

YABU to assume I was ever going to share Benedict with you.. It's bad enough all the other ladies in the cumbercartel slavering over him!

Hope you & your new crush are very happy together Grin

CassCade · 29/03/2014 14:40

Nancy, the third episode was very slow, even for TD. But stick with it, think of it as a film, slowly unrolling - you don't get the cliff-hangers with this each episode like you do with some serial dramas and I think that's why people may get put off. Of course, it depends also on what sort of programmes you like!

Gordy - come on! Someone has to! Maybe you just haven't found him yet!! ;)

Lotta - It's episode 6 tonight!!! Catch up, quick!

Only, are you serious?! The fan fic fantasy scene where he first of all nearly snogs Moriarty on the roof, and then leaps off on a bungee wire to burst through Molly's window, ruffles his hair to get the glass out and then takes Molly's head in his hands and kisses her. Please! You don't like any of that??

Lady - I'm seeing him tonight! Whoopee! Can't wait.....

OnlyLovers, completely agree with your summary of episode 2 especially the tour De force comment
