What would you do if your 15 year old came home from a friends and said he'd watched The Human Caterpiller film?

As far as I know this film is some sort of horrible horror torture film

Ds2 is 16 in June and thinks he was old enough to watch it.

I'm annoyed but am I overreacting? Teenage years are hard

Blush so centipede and not caterpillar

It's an 18 though isn't it?

So his friends parents shouldn't have let them watch it

I probably wouldn't worry.. its a more play with your head type film (the second one was a bit.. left a mark on my soul slightly) and I know that a young brain seems to let a lot of stuff go woosh over their heads. I can watch films now that I watched as a teen and see them in a different light.

Caitlin17 · 22/03/2014 22:04

Oh, I see some of you have named the film I was referring to.

Whereisegg · 22/03/2014 22:04

At 15 I wouldn't be assuming his parents knew.

I laughed my way through this film but it is a really sick concept.
It doesn't really matter how any of us reacted to this film, is your ds ok?

I think you should talk to your ds rather than anyone else.

edwinbear · 22/03/2014 22:05

The reviews I've seen of it made it seem pretty foul, but I doubt the parents knew. To be honest, if the worst he got up to was watching a horror film, albeit it a pretty sick one, I think you can let it go. I probably would ask if he was OK though, I was disturbed just reading the reviews.

drinkyourmilk · 22/03/2014 22:11

I've seen it. It isn't scarey at all, just a grim idea that's very poorly executed. Unless you want to talk To whoever let them Watch it. Might be a good time to sit down and explain the reasons behind ratings ie in this case- does he really want to be having nightmares about this kind of mutilation?

icanmakeyouicecream · 22/03/2014 22:11

I'd ask his opinion on it. I would advise him of some far better ones to watch.

Caitlin17 · 22/03/2014 22:18

OP if you don't know what it is about, it does involve torture but not torture which has happened, or could happen, in real life. It doesn't involve cruelty to children or animals and the fantasy torture isn't sexual.

LuciusMalfoyisSmokingHot · 22/03/2014 22:21

Tbh, I've heard the first one is pretty tame compared to the second one, (made the mistake of googling it, boak!!!)

So I think your DS will be fine.

SolidGoldBrass · 22/03/2014 22:24

I remember Animal Farm as well. So revolting it just becomes ludicrous.

Gross horror films, particularly for teenagers, are a bit like harcore rollercoasters - a 'safe scare' and a bonding experience.

Is your DS upset?

Bollocks, sorry about the double post, dodgy connection.

notso · 22/03/2014 22:31

The nurses on the night shift when Dc4 was on children's ward were watching this Hmm

Chocoholism · 22/03/2014 22:38

As others have said, it's a gross film but it's so ridiculously sick that it's laughable and we all watched horrors or in the case of a lot of MNetters, animal porn and it never did much harm, you can be annoyed but it's done and I think it's great he can tell you as I never told my folks about films I shouldn't have watched

Northernlurker · 22/03/2014 22:42

I don't think I would say anything to him really. It can't be undone and he's hopefully old enough to process what he's seen and deal with the consequences.

However I would go absolutely ballistic with the parents. Teens will do stupid things yes but it was in their house and they should have known or troubled to find out what was going on. Not acceptable.

AnnieMaybe · 22/03/2014 22:43

Is ANimal farm not the one where the women are having sex with animals?

Giving them blowjobs etc

I'm sure one of friends had that on I was 15 so I suppose it's the done thing isn't it ...getting hold of an illicit film and watching it as a teenager

It was the dad that gave them the dvd though that's why I'm slighty pissed off.

If they found it on their own and watched it , I would see that as part of growing up and discovering stuff and watching horror

But for a grown man to give the dvd to his 15 to watch with friends does piss me off!

He'll be giving them porn movies next

ladypete · 22/03/2014 22:44

I've seen it and it's not that bad. I remember laughing to myself at how stupid/badly acted/ridiculous it was rather than feeling affected by what was actually happening.

I understand your concern as it's a controversial film and you haven't seen it, but I don't think it will have done him any harm.

AnnieMaybe · 22/03/2014 22:49

but you can say that as an adult ladypete what if you had watched aged 15 would your view be different?

OP posts:
GimmeDaBoobehz · 22/03/2014 22:50

It's pretty disgusting to be honest.

I felt a bit sick, but not frightened by it in the least.

Just made me wonder what the hell the person who made the film was on to come up with such a sick and twisted concept.

I wouldn't want my 15 year old to watch it if I had one - but then like you have said if they found it, I guess there isn't much I could do. But the Dad giving it to them was either a) very naïve or b) a poor parent imho.

ChasingDogs · 22/03/2014 23:00

To be honest it's a really crap film with a very gross and bizarre premise. I doubt it will have harmed your son at all, he probably thought the same as any adult watching "This is fucking grim, wtf, ew".

I'd probably be more concerned about realistic portrayals of the dark side of human nature. 'Henry: Portrait of a serial killer' isn't a really shocking example but I re-watched it recently so it's all that will come to mind.

The Human Centipede is basically some crazy bugger sews peoples mouths to their friend's arse holes. Why? I forget. Because he was mad as a box of frogs most likely. Oh and they happened to break down (lazy plot devices ahoy!) near his house. Or something.

Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror stuck with me far better than 'The friendly caterpillar that could (shit in your gob)'.

RhondaJean · 22/03/2014 23:01

I would hit the roof.

I do not mind horror films and there are many 18s I would le try 14 yo daughter watch but not that.

It's a step too far. And yes I have watched it.

If Thr kids found it themselves I would have had a chat about it, as the dad gave them it I would have called him and gone ballistic. The friend would be welcome at my house but my child would not be returning to theirs.

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 22/03/2014 23:03

I'd tell him I was ashamed he had such a shit taste in films.

As kids we watched 18's when we were underage. I think most people did. It didn't scar me for life and I wouldn't be bothered if my DD watched films with and older rating.

Does he play COD? In my eyes that is worse than watching a film.

exWifebeginsat40 · 22/03/2014 23:08

the first Human Centipede is gloriously schlocky and perfect B-movie entertainment. at 15 they probably catcalled and hooted with laughter all the way through it.

however, i couldn't get through the second one in one go, mainly because it was so viscerally revolting.

Pipbin · 22/03/2014 23:14

I agree OP. If they had found it, downloaded it or sneaked it from the dad's films then fair enough, but to be given it by the dad is not on.

I've not seen it, and they might have just found it funny as others have suggested but it is an 18 and the dad should not have given it to them.
