To think pretending to be pregnant on Facebook isn't funny?

Today one of my friends posted this status on Facebook:
"Guess it was too good to be true... im pregnant!"

People were getting excited and emotional and congratulating her. Someone asked how far along she was and she said 8 weeks. I was a bit concerned because it didn't sound like she was thrilled about it and I know she's been having a difficult time recently so it wouldn't be the best timing but I put congratulations because I wanted to be supportive and she sent me this message:

"sorry u should not have liked or commented on my status so now its ur turn Now you have to pick one of the 14 below and post to your status. This is the 2014 breast cancer awareness game. Don't be a spoil sport choose you poison, and change your status xxx 1) Damn diarrhea 2) Just used my boobs to get out of a speeding ticket 3) Anyone have a tampon, I'm out 4) How do you get rid of foot fungus 5) Why is nobody around when I'm horny? 6) No toilet paper goodbye socks! Post with no explanations. 7)Someone offered me a job as a prostitute but I'm hesitant. 8)I think I'm in love with someone what should I do? 9)I've decided 2 stop wearing underwear. 10)I still love my ex. 11)I really don't know how 2 tell anyone and I'm sick of hiding it I'm gay. 12)Guess it was 2 good 2 b true I'm pregnant. 13)Just won $7000 on a scratchy. 14)I've just found out I've been cheated on for the past 5 months.Post with no explanations."

Some of those statuses are just stupid but some of them, like saying you are pregnant or have been cheated on could tug on people's heartstrings. I was concerned so I can't imagine how her close friends and family felt! I think pregnancy is a life changing event and not something to joke about.

AIBU to think this isn't funny (and doesn't raise cancer awareness) and am I being a spoilsport not to take part?

I fell for this one last night, I don't get many of these so I didn't twig. I love FB for keeping in touch with family abroad, getting local info and some closed groups for particular interests, but this really pissed me off. Undecide whether to say anything and then un-friend or just un-friend.

JeanSeberg · 27/03/2014 12:54

What did they catch you out on Who? I feel the same way about what to do next.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/03/2014 13:05

The pregnancy one, she's not a close friend, just someone I used to see at toddler groups etc, our paths cross infrequently now, so entirely feasible as far as I would have known. No one else who responded in her post has come back and said anything after the reveal.

I know what Maltese is getting at. It's like in the hunger games where all those people in the Capitol are all being vacuous and self obsessed while the world rots around them.

JeanSeberg · 27/03/2014 13:12

As another (mutual) friend responded when I told her "What a load of shite".

Yeah, like the world's bad innit but OMG have you seen what this little kid can do? And awwww, these cats are so cuuuuute [hugs]] xxx

Housemum · 27/03/2014 13:22

(that wasn't supposed to be a link, you can see how MN is not set up for people doing ironic hugs!)

dimdommilpot · 27/03/2014 15:55

Ive seen a few of these jotted about my time line. I ratrly comment on anybodies status. Its a very silly game and YANBU

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/03/2014 16:04

She's had a few more comments now, said she had thought it was a laugh but has now realised it wasn't funny. I don't think I'll stick the boot in, but will de-friend.
