To be annoyed at a customer's dog sitting on the sofa in a coffee shop?

That's it really. It's put me off the place tbh.

Heaves. That is gross. Dogs in cafés I'm fine with but Not on the bloody table!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 21/03/2014 14:22

Hideous - I'd certainly avoid a place like that in future

It's like these "dog friendly hotels" which actually I'm in favour of; after all people with pets need somewhere to go too. The charm of it is that the rest of us (who don't want bedclothes covered in dog hair, thanks very much) can then avoid them

lucycoco · 21/03/2014 14:27

Grin I wouldn't let my dog on the sofa if we were out, but I wouldn't look twice if someone else's smaller dog was on a chair / sofa! We aren't in England though.

I must admit that small children complete with snot would turn my stomach much more. But live and let live, eh? Wink

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 21/03/2014 14:28

I like dogs but my DD and others are allergic to them.

So they really shouldn't do that.

My DD would get quite ill if she sat there after the dog.

Mintyy · 21/03/2014 14:28

Now, if only someone brave would open a child unfriendly cafe near me Wink. I think its great to have niche places.

ormirian · 21/03/2014 14:30

What was he drinking?

bochead · 21/03/2014 15:59

Neither of my dogs have been allowed on the furniture. Those places I frequent with my dog wouldn't welcome her if she behaved anything less than angelically. It's lovely to take the dog somewhere nice like a park or a beach, and then be able to stop on the way home for a cuppa with friends - one of life's cherished little moments for me.

It really annoys me how one or two idiots always spoil things for the majority. At the end of the day, food is served in cafes. When owners are nice enough to allow dogs in, there is an onus on the owner to keep them under control, and to ensure basic hygiene by keeping them on the floor and off the furniture!

p.s I never consume food in homes where the cats are allowed to run riot all over the kitchen counters either!

I would LOVE to go here!

There's a pub I know and the owners boxer sits around and the locals love him. I'd love to go their.

reup · 21/03/2014 20:02

The coffee chain Harris and Hoole let dogs in.

neontetra · 21/03/2014 20:07

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I have to say I love pubs etc where the resident cat is on a bench or sofa, and you get to stroke it. Not much difference? Sorry it spoiled your visit, though.

StealthPolarBear · 21/03/2014 20:07

I don't have a dog but think as a nation we should be more dog friendly

ChasingDogs · 21/03/2014 20:39

Did it stare at you boldly while rubbing it's anus along the cushions in a suggestive manner?

That fucking dog knew it was putting you off your slice of cake and did it deliberately!

Sue the cunt.

NurseyWursey · 21/03/2014 20:43

I agree. Nothing annoys me more when I'm walking one of my dogs and a mum with a child starts acting hysterically as they're walking towards me, I don't think they realise that their children will learn this ridiculous behaviour.

maddening · 21/03/2014 20:52

I think dog on furniture is vu - but am allergic to dogs so would be having an asthma attack.

GoldenGytha · 21/03/2014 21:25

A dog on a sofa in a coffee shop wouldn't bother me at all. In fact I'd love it, but then I do prefer animals to people,

Pregnantberry · 21/03/2014 21:39

If it was a leather or plastic sofa then I wouldn't care. Giving it a good wipe down with some anti bacterial spray would do the trick afterwards.

If it was a fabric sofa, then YANBU because allergens and gunk would linger and fleas could get left behind, then they would bite customers and get into the fur of other dogs who are allowed to sit there.

MadameMattise · 21/03/2014 21:44

I'm not anti-dog by any means and I don't mind too much if there is a dog in a cafe as long as it's on the floor (and not dribbling) but this dog had its bum on a seat, a cushioned seat, for humans.

Poor dog it's not its fault just the stupid woman that let it jump on there.

It was Tide Tables Cafe for the poster above who asked.

and here's the sofa so that you know not to sit on it! Just inside the door, the one up against the wall actually.

It wouldn't bother me. they are often in our local coffee shop. As long as they are on lead and well behaved there is no issue.

BabyMummy29 · 21/03/2014 22:22

I wouldn't have thought dogs other that guide dogs would be allowed in any places that sell food. I think it's pretty disgusting to be honest.

I'm not a dog person anyway but don't like the thought of staying in a hotel that welcomes dogs either. Put them in kennels!

NurseyWursey · 21/03/2014 22:25

Would you put your child in a concrete box with a little wooden shelter?

I wouldn't. I treat my dogs as I would my children. Which is why I don't go away unless my mum can look after them. Luckily my mum is a dog lover Grin

maddy68 · 21/03/2014 23:02

I would rather a dog than a sticky fingered child to be honest!

PolkaDotsandPumpkin · 21/03/2014 23:15

I wouldn't allow my dog to sit on any sofa ( doesn't stop him from taking liberties in our house when we're out though ) and I can understand non-dog people being wary and choosing to avoid dog friendly cafés etc if they choose BUT

How can people believe that all dogs are filthy and that you will catch something from them? Surely if that were the case, every dog owner who interacts physically with their dog would forever be ill with all manner of whatever the perceived germs that dogs supposedly spread?
And how do those people who believe this cope with the knowledge that dust is mostly made up of human skin cells that we are constantly in contact with?
As humans I would think that we are more likely to catch colds, flu and noro from other humans who have questionable or underdeveloped hygiene habits.

PartyOn · 21/03/2014 23:25

I'm allergic to dogs so I wouldn't be impressed by a dog sitting on a seat where we humans eat. Why should I have to be more "dog friendly" when their fur makes me violently ill? However if I knew the cafe' let dogs climb the furniture I wouldn't go in.
