...if I don't tell my friend that her tattoo is spelt wrong?

Nessalina · 20/03/2014 07:56

Just that really!
A friend has posted a picture on Facebook of her new tattoo and there is a word spelt wrong! I won't say what for fear of outing, but it's got two extra letter in by accident Shock
No one has noticed that's posted on Facebook, and I've checked that it's not a prank (no google images of the same picture) so I think it's an honest mistake.
But... I can't see that me telling her would be helpful, I mean, it's permanent! There isn't a pretty way to fix it, and surely someone else will notice and tell her? Right?
I'm such a coward Confused

thingamy I have some around my wrist (a personal inscription I got when my dad died) and more recently I had book illustration smaug on my foot (something I've been planning for about ten years) and underneath it says 'I am fire, I am death' in sindarin elvish.

Fusedog · 20/03/2014 11:31

My mate had this is just fucking funny

NorbertDentressangle · 20/03/2014 11:32

My money is on the fact that she must already know - either she has spotted it or someone has already told her (especially if she's shown it to someone face to face as it would be hard for them not to show it in their facial expression as they notice the mistake)

DarylDixonsDarlin · 20/03/2014 11:37

Yes as a PP has said, are you sure it's not the swirly bits of the letters U and R looking like extra letters? :/

Gruntfuttock · 20/03/2014 11:39

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe, it's entirely possible that she simply doesn't care about the spelling. I've been reading messageboards long enough to know that there are a hell of a lot of people who don't think it matters one iota. I'm not one of them, btw.

LaurieFairyCake · 20/03/2014 11:46

This is the very best reason to not get a tattoo.

I'd have told her immediately.

ViviPru · 20/03/2014 11:48

Yes Gruntfuttock Those people do exist Sad

Catsmamma · 20/03/2014 11:57

I was going to suggest the scrolly italic lettering making it look more than it is?

I'd like a quotey tattoo, but it's so wordy I don't think it'd work.

Nessalina · 20/03/2014 12:01

Nope. It's absolutely a spelling mistake. Squirly italics, but clear enough to know it's wrong.

Then she already knows, OP.

I can't see any way that she doesn't, not if she's posted on FB because somebody will have delighted in pointing it out to her so you might as well point it out to her too.

Dubjackeen · 20/03/2014 12:19

Someone will have pointed it out, by now, I'd say.

Thisismyfirsttime · 20/03/2014 14:02

I really really really want to know the whole quote. Please OP?

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 20/03/2014 14:10

She needs to be told, if only so she can delete the FB post and avoid further embarrassment.

OpalQuartz · 20/03/2014 14:11

Is it one of these quotes

Eyes can only capture objects that already seen in mind.
And mind can only see things that already written in heart.”
? Toba Beta, My Ancestor Was an Ancient Astronaut

“Breathe next to me. And I will capture a piece of your soul along with mine.”
? Marikit dR. Camba, Vividly Vague

Nessalina · 20/03/2014 14:17

Nope! Sorry to be a bore, but I do feel like it could out her giving the full quote.
I think I'm going to chat to our mutual pal and see the best way to approach it...

SarahAndFuck · 20/03/2014 14:22

Send her a PM on Facebook telling her that you've noticed the mistake and wanted to tell her so she could let the tattooist know.

Then send me a PM on here to tell me what her full quote is. Smile

I promise I don't know her, so you still won't be outing her to me Grin

ivanapoo · 20/03/2014 14:22

I reckon it says "the flirty bird captur(ur)es the cock"

NoodleOodle · 20/03/2014 14:27

I would want to tell her, but not be able to.

ElkTheory · 20/03/2014 14:28

Oh, dear. I'm not sure what I would do in this case. I once had a student who had a tattoo in Russian, but the Russian was all wrong. I never had the heart to tell him.

I bet it's this one:

“It's beauty that captures your attention; personality which captures your heart.”

or personality which capturures your heart...

LeBearPolar · 20/03/2014 14:39

Sorry, Maryz, didn't click on your link before posting!

(because I was too lazy Blush)

Took the words out of my mouth, maryz Grin

JennyOnAPlate · 20/03/2014 16:23

I would want to know. Tattoos cost money and I would be livid. At least she should be able to get her money back and hopefully get it corrected.
