To think that being a mum is the best job in the world?

I think I'm becoming a bit of a baby bore amongst my friends so thought I'd come here instead! My pfb DD is 18 weeks old and sometimes I feel overwhelmed by how much I love her. We were trying for a baby for over 8 years and had almost given up hope when this time last year I got a very surprising bfp. Since that day, I feel like a black cloud has been lifted from my life and I don't think I've ever been this happy. I love every aspect of being a mum, even the difficult bits and I can't imagine loving anything more than my beautiful baby!

She has been especially cute today and just needed to share this with someone! Sorry to be a baby bore!

YANBU.
It is the single best thing that has happened to me, and I don't care if that makes me a sap, and DS a pfb!
Lovely thread.

jenniferlawrence · 20/03/2014 11:58

I feel exactly the same and my daughter is 2.5 now. She is bloody hard work and tantrummy but also fills my life with joy. I think it gets better as they can engage and talk to you.

blackcurrentjuice · 20/03/2014 11:59

I knew this would be a PFB post Grin

Enjoy it OP - before she learns to walk, talk and argue back.

chattychattyboomba · 20/03/2014 12:01

YADNBU. Which is why I'm doing it all again Grin
I could climb the highest mountain, become prime minister... An astronaut, but nothing would amount to how amazing it feels to be a mother. Every day. Aw she's at nursery and I miss her. Enjoy that bub OP

Fakebook · 20/03/2014 12:14

Another mother of an 18 week old dd here (what date was your dd born?!) and I couldn't agree more with the sentiments. Then I look at my 2 year scribbling on the walls and 6 year old making crap out of junk again with glue making a mess and think "WTAF".
I could sit and cuddle and sniff my little baby all day if I had the time.

FeelingSoLucky · 20/03/2014 13:38

BeaLola, I'm so glad you've got your little man after all you went through. He sounds gorgeous!l

Fakebook she was born on 13th November. Not so long ago but I can't imagine what my life was like without her now! When was your little one born?

I know it's not technically a 'job', that was meant more as a turn of phrase and I'll be one of the mums who will have to return to work at the end of my mat leave. I just can't imagine enjoying doing anything else as much as I enjoy being with my girl every day. I feel very lucky and so happy that's she's finally here! Smile

YABU to call it a job - it isn't a job its an utter and complete honour and privilege and I have treasured every minute so far.

YANBU with your sentiments though.

Pregnantberry · 20/03/2014 13:48

Oh no OP, I was already going mad with excitement for when our baby gets here, and you are making it worse. Grin

Glad you are having such a nice time and YA definitely NBU. Smile

Lozcat86 · 20/03/2014 14:00

Lovely post
my pfb DD is now 20 weeks and I adore being yet mum so much. Grin

Lozcat86 · 20/03/2014 14:01

Her not yet...doh!

Madratlady · 20/03/2014 14:02

YANBU, my pfb ds is 13 weeks old and i feel the same!

I do also have an actual job job which I really don't ever want to have to go back to because I never want to leave ds. Although I'll have to in the autumn.

CyberMuddle · 20/03/2014 14:11

It's so lovely to read this thread; my dc1 is due to put in an appearance any time within the next 2 1/2 weeks, and I have been excited and terrified by turns the whole way through!

Definitely excited again after reading this though Grin

rideyourbike · 20/03/2014 14:15

I have 6 year old twins and still think it's the best job in the world Smile there are days when I could do with taking a sicky but they are few and far between x

Fakebook · 20/03/2014 14:47

Mine was born 10th November :) I know it's often frowned upon on MN, but I dress her in pink and tutu sleep suits with headbands just for the fun of it Grin. We won't be having any more children and I just want to savour every moment I have with her during this baby stage because before you know it, they're running around.
Enjoy your little baby and take loads of pics and videos to look back at with fondness when she's older and going through the tantrum stage!

Procrastinating · 20/03/2014 14:52

I was going to be cynical about this but I can't.

mrsjay · 20/03/2014 14:54

aww that is lovely i held 2 newly born babies on monday and sniffed them both

mrsjay · 20/03/2014 14:55

was going to be cynical about this but I can't.

me too but it is just too sweet

ScarlettOHaraHamilton · 20/03/2014 14:57

Ditto procrastinating Grin

Yes, it's not a job, and yes, sometimes it's annoying and frustrating and hard work (loving the "jerk" comment, I fully agree, the turn to age two in the O'Hara household has been charming) but then... Then the toddler launches themselves at you for no reason, snuggles right in and says "my mummy" while patting your back, and you realise that it is worth everything.

Well, until you realise the main reason they gave you that cuddle was so they could wipe their nose on your jumper...

laregina · 20/03/2014 14:57

YANBU - I was just the same when mine were all tiny and smelled lovely Smile

It's slightly harder to always be so joyful about parenting when they hit teen years and their rooms smell like a (very skanky) rabbit hutch when you open their bedroom door in the mornings...

Procrastinating · 20/03/2014 15:00

My 4 year old just send me out of the room because she "hates me" and I "smell".
She still looked sweet when she said it though.

daisy0chain · 20/03/2014 15:02

My 4 year old just send me out of the room because she "hates me" and I "smell".

I was told "go away Mummy, I don't need you". She was too interested in playing with Granny to be instead. However she was also cute when it was being said.

OP your post is lovely! Makes me all broody too!

redcaryellowcar · 20/03/2014 15:08

Yanbu, i have two ds, 2.8 yrs and three weeks, i was worried the baby novelty would not be there for ds2, but he is every bit as scrummy as ds1. And job or not its the most fun i have ever had in my life and they are the best bosses anyone could wish for, even if they do demand a 24/7 service!

TruffleOil · 20/03/2014 15:23

My 4 year old just send me out of the room because she "hates me" and I "smell".

LOL.

I'm feeling broody.

weeblueberry · 20/03/2014 15:27

My DD just turned 10 months and has suddenly become very interesting, hilarious and infinitely amazing. It's taken me this long to think this though, she was rather boring for a very very long time. Grin. Now she gives me these fake serious sideways glances and then giggles, snuggles me and gives eskimo kisses first thing in the morning and tries desperately to climb up my legs when I'm doing anything other than playing with her.

It's bloody amazing.

Bunbaker · 20/03/2014 15:32

I used to be a baby bore, until my family pointed it out to me. I love DD to bits, but I wouldn't say that being a mum is the best job in the world. I do think it is the hardest job. DD is 13 and hard work right now.
