to ask how you told your dh you were pregnant?

PuffyPigeon · 18/03/2014 22:56

Just found out I'm pregnant with our last baby. It's a surprise but we always said we'd have one more so it's a welcome surprise. I know some people don't like to make a big deal of telling their dh, that's fair enough, but I do want to as this is my last chance to do so. Did you tell your dh in any kind of different or unique way?

I rang him at work and said "I've pissed on a stick and it's positive." He said "I feel sick. And faint." Grin

immortalwife · 19/03/2014 00:09

We dipped the stick together, read it together and then promptly burst into tears together, screamed laughed danced and hugged a lot. We were rather happy.

MrsWombat · 19/03/2014 06:33

I took a photo of the stick and text it to him at work with the caption, Are you sitting down? Guess what the two lines mean. Then he text me back a What are you talking about? (I'm guessing the photo hadn't downloaded then) Then he text me back a smile. Grin

fishfingereaters · 19/03/2014 06:44

milkwasabadchoice just curious, why did IVF meant no 'ta da' moment Confused

IShallCallYouSquishy · 19/03/2014 06:45

With DD (actively planned and tried for) he sat on the stairs with me while I used every ounce of restraint not to look at the stick before 2 minutes. We saw the result together.

With DS (a very wonderful and happy surprise) I said "can you pause the telly a moment" telly was paused, deep breath "I'm pregnant" DH: "are you kidding?" We hadn't even discussed a DC2 so were both in a bit of shock!

17leftfeet · 19/03/2014 06:54

With dd 1 he told me

I'd been throwing up for 4 days, cursing this terrible bug I had and he walked into the bathroom and said 'you do realise you're pregnant don't you?' And then went out and bought me a test

It hadn't even occurred to me as I'd only come off the pill that month and I thought it would take much longer

Dd2 we had been trying for 3 months and he came home from work saying there were strong rumours of redundancy at his work and we should probably stop trying and I said -erm too late!

HellomynameisIcklePickle · 19/03/2014 06:55

I had a pot of wee, so dipped one test in, then another until I got to 5 positives.

went downstairs very teary and red faced and growled at him to hang up in the middle of his very important work call. I told him and then sobbed for about 10 minutes.

Shropshiremummy2B · 19/03/2014 07:13

We had only been trying for a month and although my period was late I refused to take the test because I didn't think it would happen that quick. When I took the test I stood wailing at the top of my lungs (happy and scared) in the bathroom, he started shouting from the bedroom "please don't cry, it never happens that quickly, we can't have you getting upset every time it's negative" then eventually came in to console me and discovered it was positive!

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 19/03/2014 07:22

He told me both timesSmile
First time he said go and do a test you're pregnant, I was.
Second time he told me he had got me pregnant as he rolled off and he was rightBlush
first month of ttc both times.

milkwasabadchoice · 19/03/2014 07:31

fishfing because I was extremely anxious and stressed about the whole process, and after various miscarriages in the past the positive test that did eventually lead to dd was at the time just another small step down a difficult road. It's a personal thing - others will have responded differently, I'm sure.

Kittymalinky · 19/03/2014 07:32

I pee about a million times a night so was a bit confused about using the first wee of the day.

As a result I ended up testing at about 4am.

I woke DH up and told him he could have a glass of wine that night (he wasn't drinking as we were TTC) It took him a little while to work out what I was talking about.

fishfingereaters · 19/03/2014 07:36

I see milk, I was just curious. We had ivf too, was v. surprised when it worked first time. Congratulations on your DD Smile

JerseySpud · 19/03/2014 07:39

I threw the test at him and said 'Congratulations you've knocked me up'

Second time i phoned him at work and said 'Are you sitting down?' Little did i know he had just had a call to say his uncle was in hospital. He didn't really take in that i was pregnant due to the fact he was expecting me to say his uncle was dead....

hels71 · 19/03/2014 07:43

DH told me!
We had had IVF. I was at work on results day and he was working from home so got the call and told me when he picked me up...
That was one very long day.....

Mrsantithetic · 19/03/2014 07:48

First one I came downstairs with the stick wide eyed asking him what two lines meant.

Second one I phoned him at work asked how his day was. He replied stressful. I said yeah a bit like mine are going to be with two under two.

He said what?!

I said yup I'm pregnant.
Me said "fucking hell we've done it once in 11 months by sperm are AWESOME

MyNameIsKenAdams · 19/03/2014 07:49

First time I sent dh a picture message of the positive test. He had taken his students on a school trip to the local Natural History Museum, and rang me straight away to check it was what he was thinking it was.

This time round I took the test in the evening without him knowing and just sort of danced into the living room giddy. He was sceptical as it was very very faint. He was just glad we didnt have a repeat of last time as theyd alsp been to the museum again that day Grin

Mitchell2 · 19/03/2014 07:53

Congrats!

We were both hungover, POAS and jumped in the shower while he was suffering in bed.... got out of the shower, went up to him half comatose in bed and put it down on the table next to him....

He rolled over and saw it, got excited and then had to go to the bathroom to throw up (not because of the fear thankfully).

I crawled into bed and basically being feeling like I have had this hangover ever since (27 weeks today) Grin

ThatBloodyWoman · 19/03/2014 07:55

Congratulations!

First time I did it gently whike he was sitting down.
It was a complete shocker as we thought we had come to the realisation that we couldn't have children.

Second time I gave him the stick in an envelope.

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 19/03/2014 10:08

Never done a pregnancy test before and stupidly left the box outside, so I had to shout for him to tell me what the instructions said.

Me: "What does a cross mean?"
Him: "What?"
Me: "WHAT DOES A CROSS MEAN?!?!"
Him: "It doesn't have a cross... oh a plus... it means positive".

Then there were a few moments of silence. And a little bit of "Oooh this is a bit of a pickle" glances at each other the rest of the evening.

I told him over the phone. I went to the GP because I'd been having hideous migraines, when I came out I called him to let him know how I'd got on and went into a rant because the GP had said to take a test before he referred me for tests. Lots of "FFS WHY do they always assume anything wrong with women is pregnancy? I don't have a fucking baby growing in my fucking skull"

Then phoned him back 15 minutes later Blush

Apparently he went white as a sheet and the manager he asked to go home guessed the reason straight away (worked at the same place)

TheCalvert · 19/03/2014 11:16

We did all three of ours together in the toilet, found out at the same time as we were watching together ??

BumpNGrind · 19/03/2014 11:18

It was the day after valentines day. I woke up early and did the test. When I realised it was positive I walked into the bedroom where DH was still sleeping and said that even though we'd agreed not to give presents, I had a little surprise for him. He started moaning saying he felt awful so I handed him the stick. He looked at it but kept asking me if it meant I was pregnant, then we both started laughing, I cried, we kissed and that was that.

ProlificPenguin · 19/03/2014 11:23

I waited for DH to come home from work, he was late, then had to take a client for a drink and I was chomping at the bit to tell him. I put champagne in fridge (for him) and saved a picture of what a 5.5 week baby would look like. He came home wanting to go to the pub, (friday night) so I told him to hold my phone while I changed clothes to go with him, I asked him what he thought the picture was of, he didn't have a clue so I told him that his baby would be resembling that about now.

He was shocked, stunned, we had been trying for a year and I think neither of thought it would happen. Champagne never got drank and he started smoking again the next day. (he did give up before baby arrived though).
