To not feel guilty about leaving DH on his own for Easter?

Making plans for Easter weekend to go and visit a very dear friend and her family in Germany. I can't tell if I am being a total bitch or just.... pragmatic.

It is just so much easier and cheaper if it's just me and the DDs - friend has no partner, we have known each other for decades, she has a small house and 3 DS's, we would probably also stay with her parents for one night, DH is a very big man with a very large presence..... and he doesn't speak much German....

He doesn't really want to come. So he says. He says he quite looks forward to the thought of a whole quiet weekend to himself. Plus I don't really want him to come. I would end up babysitting him and worrying about him and translating not to mention the cost of the plane ticket.

But I can't help feeling like IABU for deserting him on a traditional family occasion like Easter? AIBU?

I'm going to UK for 10 days over Easter. DH is staying at home. Can't bloody wait!

I am laughing my head off at this; our situation is reversed. DH is the neat and clean house-proud one. I love it when he goes away for a few days. I eat crap; watch what he affectionately refers to as "English shit" (Downton Abbey, Upstairs Downstairs; we are American) stay up all night and sleep late. He even usually takes the dog with him (children are adults) because the disruption in routine upsets her.

It's not that he can't look after himself - he is extremely capable.

It's more the Jolly Happy Family Church Going nature of Easter, especially when you have kids - Easter Egg hunts and decorating etc

On a normal weekend it probably wouldn't even occur to me TBH.

Also agree that I love being home on my own. You would not believe the trashy TV I watch Grin

My DH works nights so apart from when he goes at 8.30pm until I go to bed, I NEVER have anytime on my own in the house! As much as I love DH I really wish he would go away occasionally...but he's a bit of a home bod and I will have to just wish.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 20/03/2014 20:52

I am hardly ever home alone either and I'm with you - I love it!

Whenever my EXW went away to visit friends in Ireland I got more excited about her going than she did! Always cook with the windows open then no faffing around with air fresheners etc. Lots of action films at a volume I wanted. Sitting around in my boxers without having to check everything was tucked in Grin. Just general chill-out without going mad. It was just good to be on my own and do what I wanted. That's my whole life now, anyway.
Mind you the last time she went away I ended up knocking two walls down that I had talked about doing but never got around to. Spent m,ost of the time trying to clear dust up.

I'm taking our 3DS skiing for the week over Easter. I didn't even think about the fact he would be home alone over (he hates skiing) Grin

YANBU.
Dp went to stay with his family leaving me on my own with the dc's on New Year's Eve. He felt bad, I wasn't bothered. It's just another day. He says he doesn't want to go, so don't worry about it. Enjoy!

So so so SO true! DH can't seem to hear a film unless it would drown out a jumbo jet Grin

DD2 who is 7 was wondering tonight if the Easter Bunny visits Germany. DD1 very kindly reassured her with a very grown up, knowing look in my direction. Fortunately the family we are going to visit believes in very very high chocolate and marzipan consumption.

DD1 is 10 BTW
