I'm not, don't know why I'm asking really.

Heh heh JeanSeaberg - I believe that an unusual amuse-bouche involving cold baked beans was served up at a Mumsnet meetup not so long ago! They caused quite a kerfuffle.

I will tolerate a bit of herb salad on the side as am pretentious middle class mother trying to pay lip (if not stomach) service to Nutrition.

It's our new Friday night staple in the Inferiority Complex. Egg, oven chips, the notional salad and a glass of rosé . Beans make me feel like Gollum. Take those nassssty beanses away from my precious chipssss!

onepieceoflollipop · 18/03/2014 20:09

I am not fussy AT all. But I would never put hot or cold baked beans in a meal with salad.
If a jacket potato with beans was served to me with a salad garnish, I would discard any bits of salad that were contaminated with bean juice.

Hoppinggreen · 18/03/2014 20:10

I love hot baked brand but feel sick looking, thinking about and definitely touching cold ones.
I don't have beans ON toast I have beans near toast!!! I can't cope with them touching anything else at all

MamaPain · 18/03/2014 20:10

But my version of salad is veg smothered in mayonnaise aka coleslaw.

Baked beans and coleslaw on a jacket potato is sweet sweet ambrosia.

Mintyy I had them at birthday parties in Lancashire in the 70s, a time of amuse-bouche aplenty as I'm sure you can imagine!

Greenandcabbagelooking · 18/03/2014 20:14

Beans are wrong. Full stop. Yuck.

I occasionally get past the middle class salad-serving angst by putting some carrot/cucumber/tomato slices on a separate plate to be eaten with fingers.

MamaPain · 18/03/2014 20:15

FFS why would you put filthy goats cheese near beans.

The pastry I can understand, beans technically being beige themselves, go with all beige foods.

I eat some really dirty food but I'd walk away from goats cheese and beans.

Slubberdegullion · 18/03/2014 20:16

Good grief.

Those tartlets look nasty. Who thought that dog's dinner up and put it in a filo pastry case?

NearTheWindymill · 18/03/2014 20:16

Beans and salad do not go. I once had a boyfriend who thought it reasonable to eat cottage cheese and baked beans on the same plate and who poured orange juice on his muesli. It was never going to last.

Mintyy · 18/03/2014 20:16

Right.

Baked beans with coleslaw and baked beans with mayo = EVEN MORE DISGUSTING than bbs with salad.

I keep trying to like beans on toast. Just about OK with a large amount of rose Harissa stirred in. Or vast amounts of strong cheese grated on. Essentially anything that converts the basic bean layer into something actually nice to eat.

littledrummergirl · 18/03/2014 20:17

Yadnbu.

Mintyy · 18/03/2014 20:19

Filo pastry - check

Goats cheese - check

Cherry tomato - check

Basil leaf - check

Cold baked beans - w.t.a.f?

Cold baked beans with salad, chicken and mashed potato doused with a load of salad cream is one of my favourite things to eat, yum Grin

motherinferior · 18/03/2014 20:22

Beans in toast is fine though MI. It's not meant to be nice I don't think. It's a utilitarian lunch. Warm and bland and vaguely satisfying in a non snazzy-in-the-mouth format.

acsec · 18/03/2014 20:24

Baked beans can mix with salad if they are in a jacket potato with salad on the side and they can DEFINITELY mix with the coleslaw too - mmmm!

SaucyJack · 18/03/2014 20:30

YABU. Beans go with everything. So does salad.

MamaPain · 18/03/2014 20:32

usual can definitely come for tea at mine, clearly she understands good food and she has uttered the phrase I always want to scream when I come in contact with chèvre.
