to wonder why people without children are on this website...?

It doesn't bother me, it really doesn't as a forums a forum.
But I've noticed people who have commented saying they don't have children to compare and give answers for, and people saying "do you have children?"

I'm just curious I guess as to what they can find to relate too if they do not have children.

(Not including people trying, I'm talking about those on this website despite not even wanting children)

nobody, why'd you cross out older? Confused

That's kinda ... odd.

I do agree the racism comment was strange too, not sure what that was about.

In the UK Mumsnet is a credible stakeholder (sorry I hate that word usually) and opinion former in social policy debates.

My son is 23 and I'm hoping not to be a grandmother any time soon but there's plenty to interest me.

What happened to the old netiquette rule that newbies should lurk for a while to get a feel for a place?
This. And now hiding thread.

themaltesefalcon · 18/03/2014 03:10

It's a reasonable enough question.

Until I was pregnant, I'd never had clicked on a url with "mum" in the title. How naff!

themaltesefalcon · 18/03/2014 03:11

I was partly joking, but I'd support a change to womansnet. Much better name.

I came here because I discovered a thread talking about my business (all good! - in a small sub forum not somewhere scary like aibu!) and stuck around. I work with children and so many of the behaviour threads are interesting to me. I have no experience of my own children and am unable to do so bar adoption so I won't be troubling some of the parenting subforums . I'm a bit addicted to AIBU however, some of the threads/1st world problems etc are great light reading!

I wonder how many non-mothers (inc non-TTCers) are on netmums, babycentre etc? It would be interesting to know and my guess is that there is a greater proportion here due to the nature and diversity of discussions

WillieWaggledagger · 18/03/2014 05:04

Sorry I meant non-mothers (not including those TTC), just to be clear

Delphiniumsblue · 18/03/2014 06:56

I don't think that anyone without children would want to go on netmums, I have older children and find it boring. I think it is more useful than here if you actually want advice about children, but that is where it stops. MN has the interesting discussions and diversity of views. You can find plenty of threads on here that have nothing to do with children.

Delphiniumsblue · 18/03/2014 06:59

I have just looked down active threads and at quick glance 24 out of 50 had nothing to do with children or being a parent.

Birdinthebush · 18/03/2014 08:07

I found it from a sketch that a comedienne does about AIBU , too early in the morning to try to find a link I am afraid. Like other posters I thought it was going to be women talking about nappies and baby poo. Wel MN is so much more than that! The wit and wisdom of the people on here is amazing, just think of all the collective experience that the thousands and thousands of women on here have. I have read threads that have me me cry for the dilemmas of the posters and also cry with Laughter ( helium balloon thing in AIBU.) ironically I have been judged online and in RL for not wanting kids but I know if some idiot on here called me selfish/immature/ mentally ill for my choice MN would jump to my defence.

WillieWaggledagger · 18/03/2014 08:20

i found MN when googling for activities to do with dp's godson when he came to visit us

tbh i think i stay for the parking threads Wink

I hope a lot of people without children are here because they have realised that people who have children can still be intelligent , knowledgable and witty inspite of their offspring .
