To tell Dog owners control you fecking dogs!

I'll get flamed I don't care. I'm fed up of people letting their dogs run wild just had another dog clamour all over me when I'm walking down the street with a 'sorry' from the owner again this happens to often. Last week a dog off its lead stuck its head near my child pram.
Its simple if you can't control your dog off its lead then keep it on its lead until you get to the park.
I think I'm going to go nuclear next time :(

I'm not a dog owner and it does my head in. Both my dd's (2&3) are afraid of dogs (possibly because they pick up on my fear after being jumped on by a 'friendly' dog when I was little although I do my best to hide this, or possibly because they don't spend any time with them)

What I like are owners who hold their dogs still when my dd's are screaming and running away at the park, the ones who invite the girls to come and pat the dog whilst they are holdin the dog still to see it is friendly and allow my girls to approach at their own pace. I hate the ones who stand there and whistle or call whilst the dog ignores them and continues running at my children. Then they shout, oh he's fine he just thinks your kids are playing, tell them to calm down an he'll come back to me Angry just get your dog away from my kids Angry you've undone all the work the nice responsible dog owner did this morning.

TSSDNCOP · 17/03/2014 14:33

The thing with dogs is they're like kids, you love your own to bits but other people just aren't that into them.

Strangers don't rush up to little kids and throw themselves on them, why should it be OK for dogs to be allowed to?

And the people with the "super friendly" dogs are, in my experience, the least capable of training their dog to recall.

Our town is a festival of shit, with little bags of shit festooned on driveways and pillars for extra loveliness. People that do this should be fucking well shot. Can you think of a more anti-social thing to do?

KittensoftPuppydog · 17/03/2014 15:26

FFS. Dogs have a right to exist too.
I get so bored of threads like these. Don't know why I'm here except dogs need someone to stick up for them.
Yes, there are bad dog owners, but overall dogs bring so much joy to people's lives you are going to be disappointed if you think they are going to disappear.
Human beings are much less lovely, especially the mealy-mouthed prissy ones who would like to cover the world in wipe-clean formica.
Perhaps get a hobby?

Goblinchild · 17/03/2014 15:30

Dogs have a right to exist.
Teenagers have a right to exist.
Do you want my 6' DS running up to you, knocking you over, sniffing your privates and telling you how much he likes you?
Do you want him weeing on your garden wall and taking a dump on your doorstep?
No?
The inability to find any middle ground, any compromise is what makes so many dog owners disliked, along with their animals.

Wishfulmakeupping · 17/03/2014 15:31

I'm not saying dogs don't have a right to exist I've wily it's clearly pointed that they should be controlled instead of being able to jump all over people and children. Maybe your hobby kitten could be reading threads before commenting Hmm

KittensoftPuppydog · 17/03/2014 15:32

I don't want human beings to do an awful lot of things that they do, but I have a bit of perspective.

livingzuid · 17/03/2014 15:32

Out of the millions and millions of dog owners out there most are absolutely fine. It is the same as with anything else in life, the minority ruin it for the majority.

mantlepiece · 17/03/2014 15:34

Ahh what the responsible dog owners need to realise is that no dogs will not disappear ... But increasingly harsh laws will be introduced that will affect all dog owners, think cigarette bans.

Goblinchild · 17/03/2014 15:34

Really?
You are telling all the posters who dislike being involved in any way with someone else's dog that they are over-reacting?
All dogs need to do is ignore strangers, and come back when called. Problem solved.

Roussette · 17/03/2014 15:35

I think it is the no compromising by some pet owners that gets a tad irritating. I actually like dogs and grew up with one, but I don't want one myself and I don't want one jumping up at me (which my neighbours dog does - it's a total untrained hooligan but neighbour doesn't want to 'squash her spirit' hmmmm which means she is a badly behaved dog).

And they do bring so much joy to so many people. My friend trains guide dogs - it's so rewarding and the dogs are so obedient. I just wish all dogs were like that.

KittensoftPuppydog · 17/03/2014 15:35

This thread has been around and around in so many forms.
Some people can't control their dogs.
Some people can't control their children.
Unless real damage is caused, just get over it. The people you need to talk to are unlikely to be on mumsnet or take any notice anyway.

KittensoftPuppydog · 17/03/2014 15:37

Hey mantelpiece. Nice threat, but you'll see that dog owners will always be catered for.
The local restaurants and pubs that take dogs are absolutely full of people spending their money.
As for parks - we don't see the rest of you for dust until around this time of year. We are there all the time.
Enjoy your formica.

Morgause · 17/03/2014 15:37

Comparing badly behaved dogs to badly behaved humans is just daft.

That's an over reaction.

livingzuid · 17/03/2014 15:37

The people you need to talk to are unlikely to be on mumsnet or take any notice anyway.

This is true. Never met a more defensive aggressive lot than a bad dog owner.

KittensoftPuppydog · 17/03/2014 15:41

And as for the dog - teenager debate - I live near a bus stop opposite some takeout restaurant.
Every day I am confronted with the same crap, curry, burger buns, chips and food containers in this bus stop. The bin is right next to the bus stop.
This is a naice area too. Some of you need to have a look at what your children are getting up to.

Callani · 17/03/2014 15:42

Toddlers also exist Kitten - it doesn't mean we let them run amok.

Toddlers, like dogs, are likely to bother people they don't know and run riot if we don't teach them good manners - are you saying that because they exist we shouldn't place any constraints or expectations on their behaviour?

If you're one of those people who think that children and dogs should be allowed to do whatever they like, then I'm afraid you are part of the problem and the reason that people want children banned from restaurants and dogs banned from parks.

KittensoftPuppydog · 17/03/2014 15:42

Morg? REALLY? Who causes more problems in the world? humans or dogs?
PERSPECTIVE PEOPLE!Please!

Morgause · 17/03/2014 15:43

I'm pretty sure my DSs never took a dump in the park or sniffed strangers' genitals.

Wishfulmakeupping · 17/03/2014 15:44

Come on kitten this is daft.
Teenagers aside do you seriously not see a problem with dogs off leads jumping up on people and children in the street not be controlled by their owners?

OP posts:
Roussette · 17/03/2014 15:44

I would much prefer food containers than SHIT. And I really don't think you can say that dog shit and out of control dogs means MNers have out of control teenagers!

KittensoftPuppydog · 17/03/2014 15:45

I'm not saying that dog's shouldn't behave. Mine does. However I get sick of the hysteria.
The restaurants that I go to that take dogs do wonderfully well. It's a good business model, so will continue whether you like it or not.

KittensoftPuppydog · 17/03/2014 15:47

What on earth do you want to acheive by threads like these? Bad owners create bag dogs.
We can all agree on that so there's not much else to discuss unless you want to stick another boot in to dogs generally.

Don't tell me that dog hatred isn't what it's all about.

HercShipwright · 17/03/2014 15:48

kittensoft clearly lots of the people who need talking to are indeed on MN. You are one of them. unless real damage is caused get over it Real damage? As defined by who? Most dog owners laugh at real damage. I was attacked by a dog while running last year, I was knocked over on the canal path (a place where dogs are banned, it's a running and cycling track, dogs are supposed to be walked on the other side, there are LOADS of signs explaining this) and my glasses were broken. The dog owner laughed. I haven't been able to run outside since (that was the third time I'd been attacked by a dog/dogs while running over a period of 4 years, all attacks in different places but all of them places dogs are banned), because I'm so scared of this happening again (I was lucky not the be knocked into the water and to get away with cuts and bruises and broken glasses) that I get sick at the thought of going down there - so I've been stuck on a treadmill 5 times a week for a year. I'm guessing you'd say that wasn't real damage because I didn't need stitches, and I wasn't mauled to death.

livingzoid Defensive, aggressive and entitled. That's your typical dog owner round here.

Goblinchild · 17/03/2014 15:51

I don't hate dogs, it isn't people like me that fill the rescue centres and puppy farms with sick and unhappy animals. Or who have badly-trained animals that terrorise, hurt and kill others, animal and human.

KittensoftPuppydog · 17/03/2014 15:51

BTW - As some of you are gleeful about the prospect of punishing all dogs for the behaviour of the few, I confirm my thesis that threads like these are for mealy mouthed prissy and nasty types with not much useful to occupy them.
