I love the music, but think they're a thoroughly unlikeable group of people!

They're all are insecure and bitchy, and spend all their time trying to impress their friends. Sandy isn't I suppose, but she shouldn't have gone back to Danny and then changed for him like she did.

Frenchy's the easiest to like imo, and she's not exactly sensible...

No jan was tiny. It's was the only total miscast in the film really. Sends out an awful message...

Sparklingbrook · 16/03/2014 19:05

Dirty Dancing is awful monicale. Grin

phonebox · 16/03/2014 19:11

Oh yeah, she probably had a 23-inch waist Envy

I guess it was taking the piss out of teenage girls who all seemed to think they were fat.

Amandine29 · 16/03/2014 19:29

Oh how odd. I would have guessed the 'fat' one was Patty, just because she seemed quite tall.

I think I was always too busy looking at Jan's fringe to notice how fat/thin she was.

puntasticusername · 16/03/2014 19:32

The idea was that Jan was fat at the beginning of the film, then slimmed down over the course of the story (with all the "hold my money, don't let me go near the refreshment stand" business and losing her fondness for Twinkies) because she GOT A BOY OMFG. Then by the final scene, she's got all thin and she's happy to rock that tight-bodiced green dress. But yeah, that was never obvious to me, I don't think fat suits were in common usage in film-making back then.

I know FAR too much about that film.

Sparklingbrook

"Dirty Dancing is awful"?

You and me. Outside. Now.

FadBook · 16/03/2014 19:36

I loved Marty, and played her in our school production. The stage production is better than the film; Marty had a solo which is about the one person she fell in love with and he broke her heart.

Agree. I loved it as a kid and still think the songs are great but the film is up there with Dirty Dancing and Flashdance in terms of crapness.

monicalewinski · 16/03/2014 19:53

Sparkling - you are now on my newly created shitlist! Grin

puntasticusername · 16/03/2014 19:54

"Hollywood Fat", exactly! Ie the stuff of wild admiration, for most of us.

Oh, there are too many of you on this Dirty Dancing thing, I can't fight you all. I shall sulk. And if you think you're having any of my water melon, you can jolly well think again.

Sparklingbrook · 16/03/2014 20:01

Ooh no monical. The deleted scene was the final straw for me and DD. Sorry. It's always going to be a sleazy film.

ScarletLady02 · 16/03/2014 20:02

I love Grease....but Cry Baby is a MILLION times better Grin

squoosh · 16/03/2014 20:04

Johnny Depp was stunning in Cry Baby.

He's so creepy nowadays.

anonacfr · 16/03/2014 20:09

I've always hated Grease.

And as for Dirty Dancing- a 16 year old girl has sex with a 27 year old guy she's met a week before? Mmmm...

Caitlin17 · 16/03/2014 20:11

Never seen Dirty Dancing; Flashdance is utter tosh but I love it.

PunkrockerGirl · 16/03/2014 20:12

I didn't mind Grease. I am prepared to be shot down in flames but I thought Mama Mia was a pile of shit. Grin

Caitlin17 · 16/03/2014 20:14

Never seen Mama Mia as I suspected it might be what you say.

ScarletLady02 · 16/03/2014 20:15

I did fall in love with him a bit in that film squoosh

Ricki Lake is awesome as well

phonebox · 16/03/2014 20:16

Mamma Mia made me cringe, and I love Meryl Streep.

It was terrible.

ChocolateSnowflakes · 16/03/2014 20:17

Punkrocker you're not wrong there. Mama Mia was a pile of shit.

Sparklingbrook · 16/03/2014 20:18

And as for Dirty Dancing- a 16 year old girl has sex with a 27 year old guy she's met a week before? Mmmm...

On a family holiday!!!

Mamma Mia is terrible. my toes curled all the way around.

IamGrimalkin · 16/03/2014 20:19

I saw Grease 2 before Grease and I whole heartedly think that Grease 2 is a much better film.

So I think that you are not being unreasonable :-)

phonebox · 16/03/2014 20:28

Grease 2 has this:

of course it's better!!!

I always fancied Louis DiMucci in it too.

Amandine29 · 16/03/2014 20:29

Dirty Dancing is dodgy but I still love it. Was Johnny really supposed to be 27? Shock
