We were listening to some pretty happy music this morning. Dd was bopping along while colouring. Dh walked in and seemed to enjoy the music too. O got up to dance. Dd freaked out a bit and started screaming so he told me to stop. Wtf?

How bad is your dancing?!

Pooka · 13/03/2014 07:40

Well if your dd was screaming and a bit freaked out, then probably best to stop!

JapaneseMargaret · 13/03/2014 07:42

Well, generally speaking, YANBU to dance in your own kitchen in the morning.

YABU to 'freak' your DD out, though. If your dancing freaks her out, it probably is best to stop.

Other than that, I'm guessing there's some sort of back-story to accompany it all, as it's pretty minor in the grand scheme of things...

seempels · 13/03/2014 07:44

I dunno. I was pretty annoyed with dp for telling me off in front of her. Shouldn't he have tried to get dd (5yrs) to see the funny side of it?

Beanymonster · 13/03/2014 07:50

I think the funny side might come in years to come 'remember that time you were the most embarrassing person on the planet and danced in the kitchen, mum?!'

seempels · 13/03/2014 07:51

Dancing to a song should not upset a child imho. I stopped and left the kids to him so I could just process what had happened. Then came back and calmly talked to dd about it. I told her it is ok for people to dance (I hardly ever do so really maybe she screamed because it was so unusual?)

Parents are supposed to embarass their children Beany.

If she was 1or maybe at a push 2 I could understand your dh being like that but she's 5, she's old enough to be at least beginning to treat you like an actual person. Does your dh often tell you what to do? That would do my head in.

seempels · 13/03/2014 08:01

No he's generally fine. I mean we're both bossy I guess. But I think he was not in a dancy kind of mood. I'm kind of pissed off with him.

MrsDavidBowie · 13/03/2014 08:18

Why did Dd freak out?
Odd behaviour...I would have carried on dancing. Wouldn't be dictated to by a five year old.

sillymillyb · 13/03/2014 08:20

Was it poke dancing?! Why on earth would a 5 year old be freaked out by dancing? Can you ask her why it bothered her? Is this serious?!

sillymillyb · 13/03/2014 08:21

Haha! Or pole dancing?! Poke dancing would def have been scary!

Fifyfomum · 13/03/2014 08:24

I would not be happy with my DH supporting a five year old in dictating what I do.

HSMMaCM · 13/03/2014 08:25

My DD used to be very unimpressed by my singing, but DH wouldn't have stopped me. Maybe your dancing was so bad she thought you were having a fit and was scared?

Pigletin · 13/03/2014 08:29

I think the bigger question is why your DD was freakied out by dancing. You should surely concentrate on that?

seempels · 13/03/2014 08:38

Neen trying to ask her why but she won't say. She's in a fineood now. Even danced along as we dang on the way to school a monute ago. I am pissed off with dp for siding with her. He said I do that often. Perhaps therein lies the problem. Dd is funny for the past year since dd2 was born. All pretty normal for this stage though.

OP posts:
HaymitchAbarnathy · 13/03/2014 08:38

I'd probably feel a bit hurt if that happened when I was just trying to have a laugh and be happy.

seempels · 13/03/2014 08:59

Just got this message from dp: "You know that I love your dancing spirit. So I'm sorry that my mood just couldn't handle it this morning x". So I think I forgive him!

BlackholesAndRevelations · 13/03/2014 09:09

Wow! People are interesting Grin

We always dance round the kitchen and if someone told me/my dd to stop, we'd clearly just carry on and try and engage the misery guys in the dancing.

What an odd post, though!

PublicEnemyNumeroUno · 13/03/2014 09:15

She started screaming because you where dancing? I don't even think you could say it was embarrassment, do 5 year olds get embarrassed? I don't think mine has ever been embarrassed by somebody else' behaviour.

JapaneseMargaret · 13/03/2014 09:16

Storm. Teacup.

seempels · 13/03/2014 09:28

Maybe Japanese. But it was pretty annoying. And I still feel like punching dp. Thanks everyone for riding this absurd storm out with me though.Blackholes, I probably should have just tried to involve him but I was too hurt at the time. Oh well. As you were.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 13/03/2014 11:01

Weird. We love a dance in this house. I find some cheesy music on the iPod and we all join in. I'm sure dd1 thinks we're bonkers but hey.

iggymama · 13/03/2014 12:14

Your DD wbu to scream at your dancing if it was just normal mum dancing. On the other hand if you were twerking then you may have scarred the poor girl for life.

Seriously though, a jig about is good for the soul, let your dancing spirit fly free.

Fifyfomum · 13/03/2014 12:47

Lol at twerking mum at 8am next to screaming child!
