I am looking for guidance here oh grammar goddesses of mumsnet!

Should there be an apostrophe in the phrase:

Future Leaders Programme ?

I think it should be: Future Leaders' Programme.
However the written information I have received does not contain one. Thank you!

It is fine either way, as it could just be the title of a programme. Like "Dogs Trust" is the title of the charity.

PedantMarina · 11/03/2014 18:17

Well, not if he's in a relationship, Tilly. Natch.

WilsonFrickett · 11/03/2014 18:49

Oh RiverTam a wee spot in the corporate bs department will knock that common sense right out of you.

These aren't just leaders. They are Leaders. Very Important Leaders of the Future. In order for us to maximise our talent potential and adopt a synergistic approach to the talent pipeline, the identification and mind-melding of Future Leaders is key. And Too Important to be left to mere Sentence Case.

(Op, just to be clear I am not slagging you as a future leader of the future. Just the corporate BS.)

Amythesianwaterfall · 11/03/2014 20:00

Of course, Wilson! Thank you:)

I agree with Tilly and littleblue - in this case 'Future Leaders' is an attribute of the main noun, 'Programme', so no apostrophe is required. Even if it were correct, using an apostrophe would look clumsy too so I would rephrase to 'Programme for Future Leaders' although that has a Soviet ring to it Grin !

PedantMarina · 11/03/2014 21:48

May PedantMarina suggest 'Despot Training'?

Much less wordy...

TillyTellTale · 11/03/2014 21:49

Wibbly Well, I don't feel very expert, either, if that helps?

PedantMarina I think he's single. Grin I feel like someone on a market stall. Lovely single sub-editor here. Get 'im while he's fresh!"

AveryJessup That's good, but I don't know if I agree with me!

PedantMarina · 11/03/2014 23:47

Ayyy-UPPP! Fresh single, kitten-loving baaaaacheloorrr.

AchyFox · 12/03/2014 01:30

This is making me dizzy, I'm off to the Games' Room to drink some Goats' milk.

Hint: There's no apostrophe.

Try any inanimate object and it really becomes obvious: Roads, paths, strategies, buildings.

And yes, it really probably should be Pedants Corner before you ask. :)
