To get a cat even though I don't actually like them...

I want a pet! I've always had animals apart from the last 2 years.

I'm a dog person but in all honesty I don't think I have the time to dedicate to a dog. It wouldn't be fair as I will be upping my days at work shortly and although I probably could pay a dog walker it's an expense I'd rather not have (upwards of £15 an hour in my area)

I'm a single parent so don't have anyone else I could rely on to help out either, my parents are close by but work full time themselves and I wouldn't ever expect them to be responsible for a pet I choose to have.

So it brings me to this, I could get a cat. I'm not overly keen on cats but I put that down to having been scratched and bitten by a vicious little ginger thing that lived across from my parents growing up.

I'm sure I would like my cat, I didn't particularly like children until I had my daughter. I'm still not keen on some children however I adore my DD and my friends kids.

Help!! Has anyone changed their mind from not liking and animal to liking their own. Am I insane for even considering getting a cat?

Looks like we'll have a furry little companion in the next few months then. I've been thoroughly assured that aside from the ass flashing a little plotting feline friend will be a lovely addition to our family Grin

You won't regret it op! I agree with what was said earlier about soon having anecdotes of your own to share. I was thinking about what you said about other people's cats, that was my problem too, I realised today that my cat behaves like that with some of my friends. I wonder how she decides who she likes and who she doesn't, they're fascinating creatures when you think about it.

Yes my cat is known as miss grumpy by her cat sitter but lets my dd cart her all over the flat without raising a paw. She also comes to sit by me whenever she senses I'm down, all of us will be gutted when she's gone but she's 12 so hopefully a good few more years

When you're scrubbing rodent blood out of your carpets, think of me! Grin

Our girl is normally really friendly Jess but she's taken a disliking to our decorator and hides when he's here which terrifies me because she's an indoor cat and he sometimes leaves the door open. She'll emerge from hiding as soon as he goes though.

I used to think I was a dog person, til I inherited a cat. I've never lived without one since. And since then I've lived with and fostered and dog-sat a few dogs but cats are so much easier, I'd choose a cat every time now.

Agree with the Norwegian Forest Cat owner. I had one of those, he was really dog-like. You could take him for a walk around the park.

Rabbits are REALLY hard work. At least ours was. Total drama queen. Had to rule the household. Cats are far easier.

Black and White cats are often real characters. My first cat was one and very very siamese in his shape and attitude.
