To think that the people in London who are wearing thick coats, scarf and gloves are mental today?

Can they not feel the warmth? Dear God, the sky is BLUE. Huzzah!

Don't know where you are in London but its not that warm central. It's nice and sunny but I wouldn't want to stay out without a coat/ large jumper.

Fantissue · 09/03/2014 13:21

Maybe they're from a warmer place so relatively they feel cold. If it's not causing a problem for you then leave them be - they're not "mental".

Oblomov · 09/03/2014 13:35

Was lovely yesterday. Hot enough to eat outside. And today. But morning and late afternoon was quite nippy, despite being sunny.
That's because it's only march. So no OP, I don't think it's unreasonable.

Twickenham, Richmond, Chiswick are all warm & packed with people either going to the rugby or just going for walks in the sun (was at a dc's match earlier so had to drive around).

I live on the south Kent coast and whilst walking my dog about an hour ago, I saw a pretty young girl (late teens) in shorts and t shirt so why did she have a thick furry trappers hat on? it is so, so warm and while I bemused by that I am also horrified by old (er) women who wear skin tight jeans, I mean REALLY, they are meant for the young, aren't they?

WorraLiberty · 09/03/2014 14:14

I've got every window in the house open because DH is cooking a roast dinner...and I don't want to be too hot to eat it Grin

I did pass a few children in the street who were wearing thick coats with hoods. I wonder if their parents know how warm it is out there Shock

Nanny0gg · 09/03/2014 14:19

Yesterday I saw some in thick coats, some in shorts and flip-flops! Both a little extreme!

And am I really not supposed to say Idiot any more?
I ask in all seriousness, what is okay to use?

Skivvywoman · 09/03/2014 14:19

It's Baltic and wet here Hmm

Bunbaker · 09/03/2014 14:20

We are well into double figures here in South Yorkshire as well. Am off to mow the lawn shortly.

Haha! I read that wrong and thought you'd seen someone wearing a thick coat with shorts and flip-flops! Grin

I agree, they may well be from warmer climes and thus feel the cold more. I remember being in Greece in April - it was sunny and early 20s, all the tourists, like me, were in summer clothes. The Greeks were all in jeans and puffa jackets.

We're just outside London and I'm sitting in my garden in a skirt and vest top, but tbf it is a bit of a sun trap.

OutragedFromLeeds · 09/03/2014 14:29

I wonder if we should have an amnesty with some of those words? They've been used outside of a mental health context for such a long time, that most people don't associate them with that/don't know the origin. Maybe it's time to redefine them and cut ties with what they used to mean, just accept what they mean now?

LadyBeagleEyes · 09/03/2014 14:30

Why shouldn't older women wear skin tight jeans? If you've got the legs skinnies can be for anybody.

ExcuseTypos · 09/03/2014 14:31

I've just seen a woman on the beach in a bikini!! It is lovely and warm but the wind's a bit chilly.

missmarplestmarymead · 09/03/2014 14:33

Cast not a clout till May be out!

My parents are on a Scottish island and have just reported that it has poured with rain every day this week and gales have disrupted the ferry service. This is how it has been for months. Must be very depressing. They have nobly said that they don't grudge the South this beautiful weather after all the flooding, but in our part of London we didn't have any flooding and we still get the sun!

Joules68 · 09/03/2014 14:37

How can tight skinny jeans be 'meant' for anyone? Clothes are designed, made and sold..., they aren't exclusively for any one age group! How ridiculous

One of my favourite people of all time was the woman leaving her home in Nice dress in a fur coat. I was about 32degrees

I remember reading a story in the newspaper years ago about some OAPs, collapsing from the heat on a coach outing.

The paramedics asked them why they were all wearing thick coats and hats, and they said it was because it was still May!

ummingandahhing · 09/03/2014 14:55

Honestly! If I'd said crazy that would have been unacceptable too!

West Berkshire here. I togged up in a fleece, got in the car and had to take it off. It is so warm that I mowed the lawn this morning. Couldn't do anymore as I'd gone to Aldi to buy a chocolate Easter bunny,a tin of salmon and a bottle of wine which I now have to replace which will not last until next week. I noticed several people in just tee shirts well trousers too. Yes, it really is extremely warm. Tea and scones in the garden in half an hour.

I did put my fleece back on to go through the freezer section of Aldi .....

I am usually the one complaining I am too hot, and opening windows even in the winter. But, I have been quite ill the past month (even hospitalised at one point) and now at home, I am driving the household nuts because I am feeling the cold. I am sat with heaters on and a blanket around me (not mentioning the heat from the oven cooking the roast dinner) and I STILL only feel just warm enough. Even though I feel much better now.

But, my blood pressure has dropped to around 81/50 at the lowest and 92/72 at the highest lately. So might have something to do with that? Loads of people feel the cold more, especially from time to time, than others. My mum used to do all the time when she was anaemic, but now her iron levels are back to normal, she doesn't now.
