AIBU to be slightly annoyed by towel folding

Or lack of, I showed dh how I personally fold our towels so they look neat and fit on our smallish bathroom shelf. He asked how I did it, I showed and we folded the rest together. I already sound a twat

Anyway, I go into the bathroom to find the newly laundered towels stuffed on the shelf in various shapes and sizes, yes it just towels and yes I'm a neat freak but ffs don't put them in the bathroom if you can't be arsed to fold them!

I'm not grateful he attempted to help, he just couldn't be fucked to put them away properly. I have issues don't I?! Grin

"Yanbu. Halfs, then thirds then halfs and put on shelf with other equal sized towels with the rounded bit facing out.

Simple.

Those who don't understand are fools."

^ this exactly.

I fear i will never be able to cohabit without being declared a controlling neat freak! Except for the dcs- they're being trained in the correct method of all household tasks Grin

henrysmate · 04/03/2014 17:32

Thereislotsof Sets of sheets folded inside the pillow case? Utter genius!
Totally doing that tonight.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 04/03/2014 17:33

why did my message post twice? Confused

really1234 · 04/03/2014 17:33

Can't see how to add a photo?!

chocolatemademefat · 04/03/2014 17:36

Life's too short to care. I don't care who folds the towels - I'd rather be reading a book or watching TV. Anything my husband does is a bonus - but we keep our towels in a cupboard so it really doesnt matter.

Essiebee · 04/03/2014 17:36

Women's Lib for this? Life is too short to stuff a mushroom.

mumbaisapphirebluespruce · 04/03/2014 17:37

Totally agree. It's the Anthea Turner method for me. My mother came to stay shortly after my DD was born and did the laundry but she folded them all wrong. She looked at me funny when I re-did them all! I'm not particularly house proud, but I won't fold my towels any other way now.

EeyoreIsh · 04/03/2014 17:38

You lot would be shocked airing cupboard. Nothing coordinates, it's all bunged in, folding is a rarity.

My pants and sock drawer is even worse. No one told me pants should be folded.

sob.

Next you'll tell me there's a specific way of storing bras and tights.

Er EeyoreIsh, tights should be folded in half lengthways and then rolled up, and stored on their sides
Bras should be folded over with one cup inside the other cup, then the straps folded inside the bottom cup and placed strap-side down. If they are molded/t-shirt bras, they should have the top cup 'popped up' so it looks like a dome

EeyoreIsh · 04/03/2014 17:55

I'm clearly a slattern then Wink

BadgersRetreat · 04/03/2014 18:51

Oh OP - I have open shelves in my laundry room. The towels and bedding are very neat and colour co-ordinated

I feel your pain, but really, if you want it looking good you'll just have to do it yourself i'm afraid Grin

moonriverandme · 04/03/2014 20:00

Wow have just watched the Anthea video & am off to refold my towels.
I also store my bras and pants in colours and patterns, oh and cotton etc. I try to this for the husband but he never keeps his drawer tidySad

Onepactupac · 04/03/2014 20:20

I can happily report that after only three years of marriage, my DH no longer shoves everything into his pants drawer willy nilly. This is progress.

I reckon that within 15 years, he will (1) not load all dishes into the middle of the dishwasher only (seriously, why would he do this?) (2) not bung his towel over the towel rail so that it is hanging a tiny corner all crumpled over (3) pick up his clothes and socks from the floor on his side of the bed.

FYI I don't do any of these things and still watch TV and read books. I also have no shame in having standards. Just saying.

CremeEggThief · 04/03/2014 20:32

YANBU. I can't bring myself to allow my 11 year old DS to put his clothes away in drawers, as I hyperventilate at the thought of them just chucked in.

I can't understand people who don't care about messy cupboards and drawers.

WitchWay · 04/03/2014 20:38

I have a range in the kitchen - it has a towel rail & I like the towels (hand & tea) to be folded in half lengthways before putting them over the rail with the label & hems inside the fold so I can't see them. DH thinks this is bonkers - he wanders around the kitchen with the hand-towel while drying his hands which makes me a little stabby & then plonks it back any old how Angry

YANBU Grin

cardibach · 04/03/2014 21:39

There are seriously people who feel a sense of pride about how their towels are folded? Really?

Onepactupac · 04/03/2014 21:49

It's a sense of pride that my house is clean and tidy at all times. No logic to it. That's just the way it is.

This is in addition to all the other stuff I take pride in, none of which is so senseless.

I just take objection to the suggestion that if one is clean and tidy and keeps a clean and tidy house, this has to be at the expense of other more worthy things, somehow. No, it's just that I'm not lazy.

WholeNutt · 04/03/2014 21:57

Well said Onepactupac

Piechomper · 04/03/2014 22:02

YANBU.

But can I just say that Anthea Turner copied her method from Martha Stewart, who has been doing it like this for years as have I.

I have a cleaner, and she folds and tidies better than she cleans so every few weeks she blitzes the airing cupboard, the wardrobe shelves and the kids' clothes and I come in and it's all beautiful. I have an abnormally large airing cupboard, with double doors and I cheer myself up just standing in there, preening!
I showed my cleaner the linen-in-pillowcase thing and she pulled a funny face and pointed out that it doesn't stack as nicely if you do it like that. Fair enough! Grin

Blithereens · 04/03/2014 22:03

I'm with you mate. It's Anthea's way or bust with towel-folding in this house! I also get very annoyed when DH 'helps' by hanging the washing up to dry TOTALLY WRONG AUGH STAB

I am a horrible wife.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 04/03/2014 22:03

This is the most bizarre thread I've ever read. I don't recognise the world portrayed by this thread.

gamerchick · 04/03/2014 22:06

I fold.. fold again and roll towels so they slot neatly into their holes.

The husband just flings them at me now because I redo his only fold once and roll. They hang over he edge too much that way Angry

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 04/03/2014 22:08

He asked how I did it, I showed and we folded the rest together

I think I love you both a little bit. You folded towels together. Awwwww!

TawdryTatou · 04/03/2014 22:18
