FFS I'm 53 and my period has started!

I'm 53, 53 do you hear me? And I'm still having fucking periods.

Please, please will some part of the universe tell my ovaries and my uterus that my dc are in their 20s, and that I do NOT intend to have any more children, and that I really, really do NOT need to have any more periods ever

FFS will it ever stop? [pathetic face}

My gran still had them til 2 months before her 60th birthday! I don't know if I could cope that long. She does look very youthful though Smile

To make it worse, I seem to have lots of non-average friends who seemed delighted to go through the menopause in their mid 40s. I really hope I'm not balancing out the averages or I'll be still going in my 70s! Shock

Oh crap! I will be 52 this year and keep hoping it will stop. I sometimes go several weeks between and start thinking this might be it. But no, along it comes and can then be regular for several months again.

I am outraged too. I was peed off that they were regular as clockwork still, I had assumed that the gaps between would just get longer, but no. My last one came 10 days early. WTF, actually more not fewer!

Oh you poor thing. I am a mere 51 and mine finally stopped (after a couple of years of completely random guessing games) about two years ago.

Bet you're gorgeous though Venus Smile and without a mystery roll of fat that has appeared under your boobs and over your tummy for no good reason Hmm.

I am 52 next week, and regular as clockwork. My GP said that is why I look so young, so i will wait.

I've been feeling like that since I was 42 or thereabouts - buggering thing should just bugger off. No sane person in their 40's has babies.

And what about contraception? The textbook advice is to continue with it until one year after your last period. But I refuse to believe that at this age my ovaries are producing viable eggs or that my uterus is capable of sustaining a pregnancy.

Ok, im 30 and look 20, does this mean i'll still be having periods in 20 to 30 years time, if so that really sucks.

Got colleague who still has periods. She's 52 or 53. She's the one that bled all over the toilet seat and refused/didn't wipe it up! Grin

Marianne I agree - when I was your age I was not certain that I'd finished with having a family. But now I am. And anyway I don't really think the whole eggs. womb stuff is still working, so it is a pointless period.

When I was at school our sex-ed teacher talked about the thickening lining of the uterus as "preparing a nice warm nest in which the fertilised egg could grow". Yup, 70' kitsch, but I'm not planning to put anything in the nest now, so I beg it to stop.

Ironically, when I was in my early 40s, I had a minor medical problem and GP suggested a hysterectomy. I refused because it seemed too much intervention (and I think I was right) but today when I had yet another period I wished I had gone with it.

Think of all the money I would have saved. And the mess. And the horror of scented sanitary pads.

I was worried that buying a mooncup aged 49 would be a waste of money. I've had 2 1/2 years out of it so far.

Lucius I'm in the same boat, I'm 30 this year and apparently look under 18, I've always taken it a good thing until now, if it means I'm going to bleed forever I think I'd rather look a bit hagged! lol

I'm nearly 54, and had a period 3 weeks ago. Thankfully it was short and light though. I do seem to be over the 'bleeding like a stuck pig for 3 weeks' phase at least, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I think they might be finally giving up the ghost.
