To think Prince William and his wife are lacking appreciation of their position

and good fortune?

He just seems a bit of an over-privileged posh boy?

I know everyone says he has lovely manners, but we can expect a bit more than that, surely?

They have just hired a 'forrin' nanny a) after making an enormous PR fuss about not having one b) at a time of high UK unemployment.

The list of god-parents for their baby was a bit multi-barrelled and Hmm No foreign royals, as is traditional, but Not the slightest whiff of any demographic diversity either.

There seem to be a LOT of luxury holidays going on with these two.

The uni course he is doing has been especially designed for him and seems designed to prepare him for inheriting the enormous (private) Duchy of Cornwall. Not exactly public-spirited?

In the much-hyped first post-baby interview, he was keen to promote a charity saving Kenyan Rhinos. Nothing intrinsically wrong with that, but the line between animals he shoots for fun and animals he wants to save is unclear and anyhow a charity for under-privileged (UK?) children would have been the nice, publicity-shrewd thing to do, maybe?

For a couple with a great deal of expensive PR expertise at their disposal they seem to be slightly missing the mark a bit too often.

a few weeks here and there shaking peoples hands and having to sit through boring dinners I pity those who have to listen to his speeches

I can just imagine Kate's ticker.

20 days till next holiday.

gertiegusset · 04/03/2014 23:53

Nooooo, I meant to high light that and then say...

20 Sleeps till next holiday.

Gah!

Mimishimi · 05/03/2014 05:48

YABU. I don't know them personally and unless you do, I don't think you're in any position to think anything of them unless they are doing something outrageously wrong. Why on earth should they have chosen demographically diverse godparents??

LCHammer · 05/03/2014 06:33

They're a waste of intelligence, education and time. Still, if some tourists go to the McDonalds near the Palace for a Big Mac, that's ok. How can you refute that clever argument?

LCHammer · 05/03/2014 06:35

I can have an opinion about millions of things I don't experience personally.

fideline · 05/03/2014 06:38

No we can't LCH we've been told.

Not close personal friends, so forbidden from opining Confused

I've never thought bout someone I've never met "they're a waste of time". I'd think Mumsnet wastes a lot more of my time than they do.

LCHammer · 05/03/2014 06:42

MN is a royal waste of time. Also massively clever and enjoyable, entertaining, supportive. No comparison. WiKa are a waste of working time as some of my money goes towards funding their lifestyle.

zeezeek · 05/03/2014 13:51

I turned down an OBE Grin on principle cos I'm a republican and don't believe in the honours system.

squoosh · 05/03/2014 13:59

Good for you zeezee! I can't stand the honours system, think it's a load of old hooey.

LCHammer · 05/03/2014 14:04

That's quite a stance, Zeezee. Well done both for the nomination and not taking it up.

Rude of me! Yes, congratulations on being nominated, I’m sure it was well deserved.

YouAreTalkingRubbish · 05/03/2014 15:25

That's fantastic Zeezeek. That's brilliant and you should be proud for turning it down. I also dislike the honours system. Thanks

higgle · 05/03/2014 15:44

Thinking again about this I suppose the fact that with all the benefits they get there are also huge responsibilities it means I think "fair enough" and I do like the feeling of continuity of history.

I was quite disturbed by my feelings about Jemma Kidd and her lifestyle in the DM this morning. here . This really is a story of someone who, on the surface of it has everything. Most importantly she has the freedom to lead her life how she wants to. I was disturbed because I felt so incredibly jealous! To be so blessed in life with beauty, cute twins , hopefully love and all the material things anyone could want (especially that lovely horse) lead me to think about the luck of a totally charmed existence.

ExitPursuedTheRoyalPrude · 05/03/2014 15:58

Oh yes - lovely horse. Let's hope it only shits in appropriate places Grin

zeezeek · 05/03/2014 18:24

Ahh, thank you. I just felt that it was rubbish and that actually I'm more proud of my hard earned qualifications than something that was given to me for something that more deserving people get ignored for every day. Would do it again. My parents practically disowned me though for a while!!!!!

Jemma Kidd might have everything now, but I seem to remember that she had difficulties conceiving - or something...can't remember and might have confused her with someone else.

angeltulips · 06/03/2014 22:37

Well they're on holidays now. In the Maldives. Thank goodness - it's been at least a month since Kate was in mustique, and William almost made it through a whopping 10 weeks of study! ( not quite, though)

Poor lambs - working their socks of for Britain plc. They deserve a rest.

zeezeek · 06/03/2014 22:46

Did he actually attend that course then? Good grief! Must have worn out the poor soul....

fideline · 07/03/2014 07:57

Maybe it's a field trip. What do they farm in the Maldives?

ExitPursuedTheRoyalPrude · 07/03/2014 08:16

I was surprised to read they have gone on holiday.

Tough old life.

I thought we were meant to be having a mini heat wave.

PearlyGrey · 07/03/2014 08:23

Poor William and Kate, looks like an absolute hellhole. Not getting into the they're paying for it themselves/how did the royals get the money in the first place argument, but the security costs (which we DO pay for) must be astronomical! Not only will they we be paying for 24 hour security over there (which surely must involve quite a lot of overtime?) but we'll also be paying for security for Prince George (if he's in Bucklebury with Grandparents?). Shame we'll never be told how much they actually cost us.

fideline · 07/03/2014 08:39

They've left the baby? I wonder if he always has a separate PPO, whether he is with them or not?
