To think Prince William and his wife are lacking appreciation of their position

and good fortune?

He just seems a bit of an over-privileged posh boy?

I know everyone says he has lovely manners, but we can expect a bit more than that, surely?

They have just hired a 'forrin' nanny a) after making an enormous PR fuss about not having one b) at a time of high UK unemployment.

The list of god-parents for their baby was a bit multi-barrelled and Hmm No foreign royals, as is traditional, but Not the slightest whiff of any demographic diversity either.

There seem to be a LOT of luxury holidays going on with these two.

The uni course he is doing has been especially designed for him and seems designed to prepare him for inheriting the enormous (private) Duchy of Cornwall. Not exactly public-spirited?

In the much-hyped first post-baby interview, he was keen to promote a charity saving Kenyan Rhinos. Nothing intrinsically wrong with that, but the line between animals he shoots for fun and animals he wants to save is unclear and anyhow a charity for under-privileged (UK?) children would have been the nice, publicity-shrewd thing to do, maybe?

For a couple with a great deal of expensive PR expertise at their disposal they seem to be slightly missing the mark a bit too often.

kim I imagine the lucky woman would be given a course of instruction, and assigned some dressers and a make-up artist, and told to listen to them. In fact, she would probably ask for the advice before the palace even had to raise the subject, as it's a confident person who can sail on through life despite inches of fashion columnists criticising you for being frumpy, etc, and 15 threads on mumsnet on the same.

She would then get treated just as Catherine does by the media.

fideline · 04/03/2014 19:09

Maybe it's the fact that she is the RF's first female graduate recruit that makes her frustrating to watch. The sense of underused intelligence and talent?

Their schedule and choice of engagements put me in mind of the Queen in the 1950s; dazzling dresses and premieres and gallery openings, Commonwealth tours, gathering posies from photogenic toddlers. I wonder if it's a conscious choice.

Not quite NM's target demographic.

Of course he was lying. I wonder if they are really MNers?

Apparently the Maori king in New Zealand has refused to meet with them as he says he and his people are not a carnival attraction. Probably just heard how boring they both were and decided to give it a miss Grin

Viviennemary · 04/03/2014 21:57

The Maori king has made the right choice then. I didn't know there was a Maori King.

sugarandspite · 04/03/2014 22:10

Kim well if the rumours that were circulating a couple of years ago are to be believed, Mrs Cambridge was rather 'upgraded' pre-engagement.

New teeth, hair, nose... plus of course getting skinny.

ListenToTheLady · 04/03/2014 22:28

See I don't know how the Maori King could do that. I would just have to meet them out of nosiness. Like people who turn down their MBEs etc. on principle. I can understand the principle and the political point, but I would jump at the chance, just in an anthropological kind of way, to check out the royals at close quarters.

Netmum is hard work, all those tickers and sparkly things.

ListenToTheLady · 04/03/2014 22:34

Well I suppose he is a king and they are a prince/duke and duchess, so he wins Royals Top Trumps.

I think if anyone will bring the royals down it is William (along with kate) for being well so dull

we have got used to a little more drama, and that is what the royals are a soap opera, entertainment for some to mock for others to praise

I am sure they are nice if not overly spoilt and indulged but all the oh so clever we are normal just like you is backfiring

I can understand the Maori King's point. I cringe every time I see another round of grass skirt/ feather headdress/ tribal dancing nonsense. All so bloody colonial and patronising.

Are you spearheading a "Set William free" campaign, Kim?
