To have reported neighbour

RinkyDinkyDoo · 01/03/2014 19:16

Tax disc on his second car, they have a main car and a works van, ran out at the end of January.
This car is mainly parked on the road, as is the van and other car, they have room on their drive for one car,but don't use it.
I have now seen him driving the car with out of date tax 4 times now. I reported him on the DVLA website this afternoon.

Exactly Full.

CrohnicallyFarting · 02/03/2014 11:41

I presume boiledpiss is somewhat friendlier, explaining why they got away with it!

MrsDmitriTippensKrushnic · 02/03/2014 11:54

Ditto what Custardo said. If the neighbour's an arse, report them. If they're not then leave it.

I've done what Rinky did My MILs old neighbour was an absolute bastard, who would upset her and the neighbour on the other side. He'd sell crap cars from the pavement outside her house - if it didn't move for a week and had no/expired tax I'd report it for her. He and his family ended up doing a 3am flit a couple of days before the police did a dawn raid on their house.

Bearbehind · 02/03/2014 12:03

I'm really surprised by the 'if the neighbour's an arse then report it, if not don't' attitude.

Surely you either believe something is wrong and should be reported or you are happy to let it go.

Morals that depend on your opinion of a person are pretty dubious aren't theyHmm

SirChenjin · 02/03/2014 13:01

Not at all.

Let me explain how it works. If you're a good neighbour and you show consideration for others then people (generally) appreciate that and help you out (in this case, point out that your tax disc is out of date). If, on the other hand, you're a selfish, twattish arse who has no respect or consideration for her/his neighbours than that tends to get people's backs up (in this case, rather than point it out to you they will notify the DVLA).

HTH.

Bearbehind · 02/03/2014 13:12

So you become a selfish, twattish arse who reports people out of spite and so the cycle of ill feeling continues??

Yep, that really helps Hmm

SirChenjin · 02/03/2014 13:14

Reporting someone for breaking the law repeatedly does not make you a selfish, twattish arse. What an odd analogy Hmm

Bearbehind · 02/03/2014 13:22

It does if you've done it for purely malicious reasons.

I can understand if you thinking anyone who breaks the law should be reported but your decision shouldn't be swayed by how the person breaking the law treats you.

Oh, and he's not repeatedly breaking the law, having no tax disc on the vehicle on the road is wrong, it doesn't matter if it's driven or not, so he isn't commuting an additional offence each time he drives it.

Meh84 · 02/03/2014 13:26

Yabu - ours ran out, renewed it and got lost in the post for a few weeks. How do you know that he's not had a bloody nightmare with that sort if a situation?

It's got fuck all to do with you op to be fair

SirChenjin · 02/03/2014 13:32

It does make a difference - as has been explained to you. If you don't agree, fine - no big deal, but a twat who repeatedly breaks the law deserves everything they get.

Bearbehind · 02/03/2014 13:35

You 'explaining' it to me doesn't make you right and as you clearly don't understand the very simple fact that this person is not 'repeatedly' breaking the law there's not much point in continuing this and we'll have to agree to disagree.

SirChenjin · 02/03/2014 13:59

Repeatedly driving without a valid tax disc is repeatedly breaking the law.

Yes, no point in continuing.

Bearbehind · 02/03/2014 14:05

Sorry, but it is not repeatedly breaking the law. If the car is on the road, whether parked or being driven and it doesn't have a tax disc, that is an offence.

The fine for not having a tax disc does not increase each time the vehicle is driven, therefore it is not 'repeatedly' breaking the law.

Repeatedly breaking the law would be the neighbour not taxing any of his 3 vehicles and that wasn't the case.

Nicknacky · 02/03/2014 14:07

He commits an offence each time he drives on the road and would be reported to dvla each time. Being kept on the road is obviously also an offence.

peggyundercrackers · 02/03/2014 14:13

Come October you won't know if it's taxed or not as tax disks will not be given out...will help people mind their own business...

Bearbehind · 02/03/2014 14:15

But how can the DVLA monitor how many times it's driven nicknacky?

I can see its multiple offences if it is off the road then put back on it but if it is constantly on the road, surely it makes no difference if it is driven or not- the offence is having an untaxed vehicle on the road.

Nicknacky · 02/03/2014 14:19

They can't monitor it. But if the vehicle is stopped more than once then it would be reported each time.

Caitlin17 · 02/03/2014 14:21

To everyone who is giving the OP a hard time will you all be forgiving of any uninsured drivers who hit you or your cars or your families?

As for any one who said it's easy to forget to renew - I don't believe you. It's easy to ignore it but to forget? Really? You get reminders, it's bloody obvious every time you get in the car.

Bearbehind · 02/03/2014 14:21

Christ, don't tell the OP that, she'll report him each time the car moves. Grin

sirchejin- I apologise re the multiple offences Blush

Funnyfoot · 02/03/2014 14:22

YANBU

The nn is not going to go to prison. The DVLA will send him a reminder letter regarding his tax. If he does nothing then the police will go see him as it is a criminal offence.

I think some posters are being ridiculous with their "nobody likes a grass bollocks"!

This is mumsnet not Prisoner cell block H FFS.

OP you do not need to justify yourself as to why you posted. It's an open forum, post what you like (within talk guidelines). Some numpties on here think they own the bloody site and can tell people what they can and cannot post about.

Bearbehind · 02/03/2014 14:22

caitlin RTFT, not having a tax disc does not automatically mean the driver is not insured.

Caitlin17 · 02/03/2014 14:23

Those of you who think this is no big deal - do you understand it invalidates the insurance?

honeybunny14 · 02/03/2014 14:24

So if you dont get on with neighbors they should report you ? Wouldnt you not just hate to be that bitter and spitefull ? You should mind your own buisness op.

Bearbehind · 02/03/2014 14:27

It doesn't caitlin the driver wouldn't get a pay out but the third party would.

NewLisaLife · 02/03/2014 14:28

Maybe he has renewed it but not put it in.
