to assume dog walkers will give way to me and my pram when passing on a narrow pavement

I try to get out with DD for a walk everyday. I'm amazed at how often dog walkers will not give way to me and my pram and let me walk on the safe side of the pavement away from the road when passing.

Aibu to expect this?

If I can I walk so that my dog is furthest from the road, if someone is coming towards me I generally walk on the left.

Pram Hogs are quite common now though & if they're taking up the whole pavement I just stand still on my side of the pavement & let them "notice" and go round....

Why dog walkers in particular?

What if he meets someone with a walking stick or a lot of shopping bags or a small child of their own or another pram or someone with a really wide bottom? Grin

Who gets the safe side then?

If nobody has to go onto the road but someone has to go nearer the road side than the garden walls and houses side, why is it only a problem for him if they have a dog with them?

My dog is my baby

There are several groups who should go on the outside. 1950s men, people with prams, Buffalo girls.

I walk with a pram and a dog most days but there being a "safe" side of the pavement thing has never occurred to me. I usually give way to any pram/trolley etc and just edge out a bit more yo whatever side the dog is on so there's no chance of the lead getting caught on a pram or person. I think yabu as long as they're making some effort to accommodate you.

Tiggy Grin or ROFL as the young young, youngies say.

I often walk six dogs. People tend to throw themselves off the path to move out of my way. Grin

it is a pain in the butt though when you have just got the baby to sleep and someone with a pack of yappies or spaniels (which i love) come hurtling along and you have to bounce the baby off the kerb and back up again when they get older its even more a pain in the butt as they are heavier

i just stand still and apologise they go around me xx Grin

This thread reminds me of my nan in a happy but embarrassing way. She was convinced that anyone with a dog should walk on the road side of the pavement and would cross the pavement to the 'safe side' when she met a person with a dog, usually dragging me with her, even if we had happily been walking near the road for ages. I used to cringe as I got older, but it is one of the memories of her odd ways that make us smile. Sorry, totally off topic reminiscing.
