to assume dog walkers will give way to me and my pram when passing on a narrow pavement

I try to get out with DD for a walk everyday. I'm amazed at how often dog walkers will not give way to me and my pram and let me walk on the safe side of the pavement away from the road when passing.

Aibu to expect this?

What on earth happens when you encounter another pram user on a narrow pavement

good question. Does it depend on the age of the baby? Or the sex of the babies or the pushers? Or whether the baby is a PFB?

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 26/02/2014 17:58

Or which child is gifted? Or the salary of the richest DH? Where would it end?? Lol!

cobaltcow · 26/02/2014 18:03

Don't have a dog but I'd always move out to the road side if someone is passing with a pram and especially with children who are walking. Annoying when two pram pushers or parent with children expect you to step into the grass, mud etc to let them pass without breaking rank.

hairypaws · 26/02/2014 18:08

I make my dog go on the left as this is the side she does her heel work on, so would be roadside half the time. She also sits and waits for joggers, walkers etc if path is narrow. Thankfully people have always said thanks or at least smiled.

Dogs are trained to walk on one side so I suppose it's pretty dependent on this, I wouldn't move to the road to get out someone's way as my dog has verbal commands for crossing roads and she would get confused.

Have been a pram pusher, now a dog walker. I will always stop at a safe and convenient place and let the mum and pram or chikdren or just walkers pass. I have noticed a lot of filthy looks and lack of a thank you from many pram pushers. So so rude. People are so entitled these days . Bah!

maddening · 26/02/2014 18:26

just stop where you're happy and let them go round you

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/02/2014 18:31

Ha! Your dp is being a bit precious!

I would of course give way rather than let anyone walk on the road.

I've never really thought about there being a "safe" side of the pavement though. I just keep left.

mumofthemonsters808 · 26/02/2014 18:33

I too always let a pram pusher or generally anyone have priority over me and my dog, but very rarely do I receive a thank you. In the past I've also walked my pram and large dog together and can not recall any major problems (apart from off lead dogs pestering my dog, then I did need my wits about me).

RedFocus · 26/02/2014 18:34

Today I had to walk in the road while a woman pushed her pram and toddler at me. Did she say thank you? Like fuck she did!! Blush

thebirthlyhallows · 26/02/2014 18:41

I feel like every time I now go walking with DH and he is pushing the pram I will have to give apologetic looks to the dog walkers he is forcing kerbside.

Safe side? Do you also carry a sword? Sounds like medieval England!

AgaPanthers · 26/02/2014 18:54

How big is your pram?

Is it one of these? i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/04/14/article-0-12976823000005DC-162_634x576.jpg

I would give way to dogs, because they are (semi-) wild animals and unpredictable and might not be fully under control for any number of reasons. Anyone who assumes that dogs accord with fixed rules of the road is a bit barking, if you'll pardon the pun.

LessMissAbs · 26/02/2014 19:11

YANBU it annoys me when I'm walking or running. I am not less important than a dog! Today I was forced into ankle deep mud while running because a man couldn't be bothered to call his dog to heel.

I fail to see how one man and one dog needs an entire pavement to themselves.

AmberSpyglass · 26/02/2014 19:15

Have you read the thread, Sinister? not one person has said the OP should be walking on the road! Also, dogging definitely has not been mentioned :D

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/02/2014 19:17

Doggers Sinister? Grin

BumpyGrindy · 26/02/2014 19:23

I ALWAYS give parents with smaller children than mine, or elderly or disabled the "safe side"

I was taught this....they are more vulnerable...you just do it. YANBU

AgaPanthers · 26/02/2014 19:24

You weren't really forced into mud while running, you chose to run in the mud because you didn't want to slow down.
