To think that people just don't get supply and demand

If airports are currently running at capacity then how can lowering taxes on flights help people get a cheaper holiday.

If families are currently willing to pay current high prices for holidays, then reducing taxes will surely lead to holiday companies being able to hike prices even further because people do seem to be able to afford them at the current rate.

Why do people not seem to understand the basics of supply and demand. If people couldn't afford the current costs of holidays to fill seats on the planes then holiday companies would have to put their prices down. They are full though Hmm

Lots of folk don't understand supply and demand.

I am a sailor and I remember when the financial crisis hit Greece and Spain. Lots of the marinas hiked their prices. Result: loads of boats anchoring off and taking the dinghy ashore, perhaps spending one night in the marina, instead of 3 or 4 or more. Total nonsense. Not only did the marinas lose revenue, but the bars and restaurants around the marina did too because people were more likely to stay on their boat, particularly for security reasons.

When did people stop getting it? Or is it not a new thing?

I am a farmer. Let's say I have enough money to afford a holiday, I can't because I am a farmer. I work few hours in winter, hard core in spring/summer/autumn.

I would like those that want to move 'holidays' into the 'legal entitlement'category, to tell me how my farm will be looked after whilst I'm exercising my human rights?

I agree about people not getting supply and demand.
However I wanted to add that holidays are staggered in France (except Christmas and summer) and prices are still much, much higher during school holidays.

@Filimou: you didn't offend me, please don't think that. Anything but (I was being sarky).
It's grossly unfair that one family can afford the fines & another can't. :(
But that's another thread.

" Probably provide all the food, since they are paying for travel costs. People living more than 2 hours drive away probably won't come due to high hotel costs. Finalise food & other details. Do I need to book entertainment, a DJ?, or is just hanging out good enough? No dress code.. or should I? Book it maybe 1-5pm. Cost has got to be at least $1000 without entertainment, but depends who shows up"

Seriously your family would expect you to do this?

Sorry I was thinking that it would be slightly more fluid than that and not so one sided that you organise and pay for an event.

My thought was that your family might meet you somewhere because you have travelled transatlantic to see them. I would not have thought you'd need to host and pay for an event. Good grief!
