AIBU to be fed up carrying blasted 34G around

bongobaby · 23/02/2014 21:57

This weekend I have spent laid on the sofa with painful back ache. My shoulders are in a permanent hunch with poor posture because of my 34G size and I'm having physio to help with it. I look ridiculous in any tops and get embarrassed by the size of them and am fed up lugging them around.

monkeysox · 25/02/2014 14:51

Feeling the boobpain 32g here went up to 34l.when.in.nursing bras. Bravissimo but Freya pre dc and now fantasie fits better. Brastop. Com and.eBay.stock those makes x

monkeysox · 25/02/2014 14:53

Meant to say I asked gp about a reduction and wasn't helpful think I'll have to pay if do decide to go for the chop

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2014 15:03

I'm honestly not surprised that you are wearing them out at that speed tbh. I'm a bit of a bra addict so have loads but the ones I wear maybe every week don't last more than about a year before they start doing exactly what you describe. When I was pregnant I wore them out in four months as I only had a few. It sucks I agree. I'm a similar size too

Lottapianos · 25/02/2014 15:09

It does suck but it's reassuring to know that other large-chested women have a similar experience! Every time I actually lift my chest with my hands I notice the enormous relief in my neck, and am so shocked at how bloody heavy they are! So I guess it's not that surprising that a fairly flimsy bit of material and wire will struggle if asked to support them several days a week!

I was seriously considering a reduction but am horrified at the 'growing back' stories on here - I know it doesn't happen for everyone but it would be a gutting waste of six grand!

Melonbreath · 25/02/2014 15:19

I've decided to save for the op. I've had enough. All you attract with big boobies are big babies. My neck hurts, my back hurts. I have to make my teeny waist look bigger or I look ridiculous. Swimwear shopping reduces me to tears. I shall wait until they've settled after breastfeeding but they are a size 28j at the moment.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2014 15:26

One thing lotta is you might want to try an ewa michalak. I wear them a lot and no neck pain here at all. Very well made.

I know that you get fitted and bravissimo are normally excellent but have you ever tried a smaller band? The sore shoulders and neck is often a sign that the band isn't taking enough of the weight.

Lottapianos · 25/02/2014 15:29

Thanks for recommendation SC- do you buy them online?

I'm going to Bravissimo to get re-measured and fitted and the whole lot in a couple of weeks. I have lost some weight recently so I may need a smaller back size, will see what they say.

QuizteamBleakley · 25/02/2014 15:58

Sorry for not reading all the posts but just wanted to say that I went from a 36HH/J to a 36D with a breast reduction, 5 years ago. It was literally life-changing (albeit not a walk in the park). I met my DH afterwards and we now have children - all of whom were breastfed (with increasing degrees of success!)

It's not a simple op but my life has changed so much that I would do it again if I had to. Feel free to message me if anyone wants any more (gory) info!

Orangeanddemons · 25/02/2014 16:01

But how do you get a smaller band without back fat, or armpit spillage? My neck hurts all the time, and I have constant upper back problems, and yes, when I lift them all the pains disappear

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2014 16:14

Smaller band doesn't equal back or armpits fat if you scoop. If you get those you need more cup space. There is an article on the better bra campaign about backfat

WitchWay · 25/02/2014 16:20

Poor you - poor all of you who struggle with your big boobs. I've never wanted bigger boobs & fortunately DH is a bottom man Smile

Orangeanddemons · 25/02/2014 16:20

I do scoop, but it kind of leaks back out again....

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2014 17:43

Despite being a 30 back, I'm fairly podgy so I am naturally prone to a bit of the old backfat at the best of times. Some of it does work it's way back out over the course of the day (I never have a wee reshuffle in the loos at work, nooooo Blush) but, if scooping really isn't holding then quite often it's because a) the back is too big, so it just doesn't have the strength to hold it in, b) the cup is too small so there just isn't enough room and the path of least resistance is out the back, or c) a bit of both. I quite often find that more backfat on a previously good bra is a sign it's getting a bit too old and stretched out.

If you pop your bra on back to front, how far away from your body can you pull the band?

Lottapianos, Ewa Michalak is a polish brand so they are online only. They do a really good range - and custom make loads of sizes too. I just checked and 32HH is actually in their standard sizing (30HH isn't so I'm custom for most) which means they are returnable. I don't know what shape your boobs are but their s shape like this are nice bras that suit lots of people. They're lightly padded, not so much that it adds any bulk but it helps with the support. They do some totally unpadded ones too. Price wise they're pretty much the same as a Bravissimo (fluctuates a wee bit with currency etc), pants are a little cheaper. Winds up a little more expensive when you're only ordering one due to postage but not prohibitively. I ordered a single fairly recently which I think cost me £42 including postage, paypal etc.

There is a review of one in another colour here by someone who has pretty big boobs.

I've got loads of them so just PM me if you want any advice!

Orangeanddemons · 25/02/2014 18:11

How far away should you be able to pull the band?

Bit if they fit around the under boob tightly I can't breathe

Orangeanddemons · 25/02/2014 18:12

Also, what does it mean if just one bra strap falls down and the other stays up? It falls down on the side with the smallest boob

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/02/2014 18:23

I think you do need a smaller band, but remember if you go down a band size you go up a cup (or more) to compensate. If you don't do this you will feel like you are being cut in half because your boobs will be stealing fabric from the band! Straps falling down is also a sign the band is too big, I'm going to hazard a guess that you're only getting this on one side because your bigger boob is stealing some of the excess band.

Have you seen the blog article about managing asymmetry? Might be useful for you.

If they bra doesn't fit firmly then the strain is all going on your poor shoulders. It's part of the reason I get so, so angry about the way M&S insist on fitting because they are actually causing serious problems with shoulders/neck/upper back. We had one lady who had been fitted there for years who had really big boobs and she even ended up with nerve damage. Once we got her in to a better bra a lot of her symptoms were hugely reduced.

ferretyfeet · 25/02/2014 18:29

I thought you were carrying 35grand(money) about

Am quite surprised by how big some people feel their boobs are. I'm a 30G and don't think my boobs are absolutely enormous. Bigger then average, maybe, but not freakishly so. And have never had back or neck pain .... Am I just lucky?

treaclesoda · 25/02/2014 18:54

I think it's interesting that pre-reduction I felt that I had huge boobs. 32GG Am now back to the same size and yet I feel quute 'normal'. Ideally I'd much prefer them to be smaller but it's no big deal.

I think a lot of it comes down to shape as well as size actually. My shape is good, my surgeon made a far better job of me than mother nature did, so even though I'm the same bra size I look much neater.

pinkstinks · 25/02/2014 18:56

Can someone link to the kits mentioned above to stop wired poking out? That would be amazing!
I can't get over the volume of a j cup, more than a handful is a waste, I've got at least four handfuls in each one!!!

MichaelFinnigan · 25/02/2014 19:00

I've chucked out about six newish bras they have list a wire in the last year. What a waste if they could be fixed :(

winklewoman · 25/02/2014 19:53

Kit for wires that poke out:

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/INSTANT-BRA-REPAIR-KIT-NO-SEWING-Broken-underwire-Emergency-PERMANENT-FIX-/141005677263?pt=UK_Women_s_Lingerie&var=&hash=item20d497e2cf

Amazon used to offer "Bra Angel" kits but they now seem to be out of stock. There are many sites offering replacement wires in all cup sizes.

MadBusLady · 25/02/2014 20:03

My back pain vanished almost overnight when I started wearing the correct size properly measured (went from 34C/D to 30FF).

Anyone who reckons they're a 34 back who is smaller than 5'8, size 12... You're probably not Smile

CelticPromise · 25/02/2014 21:28

JohnCusacksWife I'm with you, my 30HHs look substantial but not huge on me. But I reckon that's because I have a biggish frame (size 16) with shoulders and hips that balance them out.
