AIBU to be fed up carrying blasted 34G around

This weekend I have spent laid on the sofa with painful back ache. My shoulders are in a permanent hunch with poor posture because of my 34G size and I'm having physio to help with it. I look ridiculous in any tops and get embarrassed by the size of them and am fed up lugging them around.

OP posts:
MrsJollyPostman · 24/02/2014 07:59

Im a 34g and have no pain at all. Im a size 12 tho so have a slightly bigger frame than you. I think you're most likely wearing the wrong size. I got measured in marks at a 38ff, no support whatsoever!
However can I ask other posters who are experiencing back pain from this how old they are? Im 25 and do wonder if maybe this affects you more as you get a bit older (might be talking complete rubbish there).

Lottapianos · 24/02/2014 08:16

I'm 34 and back/neck pain getting worse all the time. Worried what state I'll be in when I'm 50 if I don't do something about it soon!

Binkyridesagain · 24/02/2014 08:24

34JJ, 42(nearly 43) years old. I always had back and neck pain until I was measured properly on here, (I was wearing 40F, M&S measured). Now I am a lot more comfortable, I only get neck pain when I'm stressed.

I love my breasts now, they suit me and I would never dream of getting a reduction.

InMySpareTime · 24/02/2014 08:27

I never had any pain in mine, from when they were 38HHShock through 5st of weight loss to where they are now (26G). I am now a size 6-10, OP is definitely in the wrong size bra and could by a shelfload of well fitting bras for the cost of a breast reduction.
OP, where have you gone? I'm curious to see what size you really are!

Orangeanddemons · 24/02/2014 08:32

I'm a 36 Jj. I hate them. They look like I have 2 balloons shoved up my front.

What really pisses me off, is I have a small waist, but can't wear belts or cinch it in, as the boobs just look ridiculous.

I also have constant back and neckache

HarrietVaneAgain · 24/02/2014 08:42

Has anyone found loosing weight helped? I ask this because I normally have to loose a lot - 2 stone - before any weight comes off my boobs and I can't maintain that. They always seem to be the last place I loose weight from and the first place I put it back. So fed up with them. They appeared overnight when I was 12 and I've been stuck with them ever since.

Orangeanddemons · 24/02/2014 08:58

Well at 5 ft 8, I once at a time of trauma went down to 8 1/2 stone. Boobs still stayed at an E cup Sad

CelticPromise · 24/02/2014 09:08

I am a size 16 and wear 30HH. If you're a size 12 our smaller and wearing anything over a 32, chances are you're in the wrong size. The right size can make an enormous difference.

Destinysdaughter · 24/02/2014 09:09

Wow some of you have got brilliant GPs. I've had back pain for years and no dr ever suggested a breast reduction. Just gave me bloody pain killers! :(

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/02/2014 09:15

When I used to wear a 32B bra I got back ache every day. I got bra-interventioned & now I'm in a 28D.

No more back ache & my straps don't fall down all the time.

winklewoman · 24/02/2014 09:22

I had a breast reduction in 1988. GP referred me and I was on the (lengthy) NHS list but rich brother kindly stepped in and paid for it to be done privately and quickly, thanks to his lovely GF who had a reduction herself and just told him to pay for mine too. I gather it cost about £3,500 then.
Little pain and discomfort, though taking out the stitches took ages - I lost count at 186.
I would say though, that over the last 25 years, they have grown back to some extent, probably because of general weight gain. God knows what they would be like if left to their own devices. Though they are on the large size, they are comfortable and buoyant, and I am very fond of them.

MigGril · 24/02/2014 09:23

I had back pain when younger, I'm a 34GG at the moment and was then. But physio and the innovation of bravissimo has fixed that problem. My Gp art the time mentioned a reduction but thatwas pre kids and breastfeeding was very important to me, I didn't want topossibly cause a problem there so didn't have one at the time..

I went upto a K cup while feeding am back to a GG, and thanks to good bras haven't had any back pain since. In fact I'd say it's much better now then ever. I wouldn't even consider a reduction at the moment.

InMySpareTime · 24/02/2014 10:09

HarrietVane, losing weight took a lot off my frontage, but I was obese and am now a healthy weight after losing over 1/3 of my body mass.
Cup size still nominally similar but much reduced in terms of volume.
38H each bra cup was like a hat, 26G is barely a handful, as my back size shrank considerably the difference between under and over measurements equates to smaller overall breast volume.

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 24/02/2014 11:00

I'm currently wearing a 34J and nearing the end size wise for most places! I only ever own 1 bra at a time as they are so bloody expensive Shock. My boobs are still growing too, every 6-9 months I find I've went up another size Confused

I'm not small either, 16-18 and about 5 stone over weight. I'd love to lose weight and have them shrink but can't help how dreadful they would then look, hardly perky just now Sad

rumbleinthrjungle · 24/02/2014 21:55

I had to get my weight to a set marker before surgery was agreed to prove it wasn't excess weight. It wasn't, I didn't lose an ounce from them. I was 32 when I had the surgery.

I couldn't get it done on the National Health, but it was well worth saving for.

Gruntfuttock · 24/02/2014 22:26

winklewoman your post has reminded me of what I have read before, i.e. that they can grow back after a reduction. I was absolutely horrified when I read that not long ago, so am amazed that I had forgotten again. Imagine spending thousand of pounds when you're far from well-off, only to find you're back to square one after a few years! Shock It doesn't bear thinking about.

coffeeslave · 24/02/2014 22:31

I'm a 32FF and I love my boobs! Not had back pain (yet!) or any trouble getting bras.

If you're looking for bra & clothing recommendations then www.curvywordy.com & fullerfigurefullerbust.com are great

FoxyHarlow123 · 25/02/2014 07:30

Grunt, the key is to keep your weight low. I suspect those who have had an increase in size have gradually put weight on.

Melonbreath · 25/02/2014 07:44

28G here and a size 8 to 10e. My cousin had the op and is a different person now. I wish I could have it. I look stooped and I get very bad upper back pain from all the front weightage.

treaclesoda · 25/02/2014 08:01

Not necessarily. I have had a reduction 15 years ago and I am now back to the size I was pre surgery but actually I am slimmer than I was 15 years ago, just after my surgery, so its not weight gain. My sister is the same and she is a lot slimmer than she was at the time she had her surgery.

HappyGoLuckyGirl · 25/02/2014 08:13

I'm 22, 32JJ and a size 12 on top. I need to lose 2 stone to be at a healthy weight (thanks DS Wink )

I would LOVE to have a reduction! I get back and neck pain from walking or even just standing for a long period of time.

Did any of you ladies have your reduction on the NHS? I was looking into it but I've been told it's extremely hard to get them to say yes as it's seen as cosmetic. You have to have physical and mental issues with them, which I do but I don't know if they're 'severe' enough.

I can't afford thousands of pounds to go privately. I know it's not my excess weight as this is a recent gain during pregnancy and early motherhood (DS is 8 months).

Before I had him I was a 32HH at my last measure. I've had them since I was about 14.

InMySpareTime · 25/02/2014 08:18

Have you considered doing core stability exercise such as Pilates or yoga? That would improve posture and build the muscles necessary to support the back and neck. Also, a darn sight cheaper than surgery and good posture lasts a lifetime.

TicTicBOOM · 25/02/2014 08:19

34H. I feels you.

MichaelFinnigan · 25/02/2014 08:25

Only got half way down. But YES! I'm a bravissimo convert but I'm getting through bras at a rate of knots fur to wires popping out. I'd decided to stop buying them there but where else can I go?

treaclesoda · 25/02/2014 09:29

I had my reduction on the NHS, but it was 15 years ago, and tbh, I was in a bad way psychologically, as well as physically, I was very depressed about them, and truly was in a bad state. I've never looked back.

Having said all that...I'm back to the same size that I was pre-surgery, and as I said upthread, its not due to weight gain, the Drs have said that it is very normal to grow back and my sister's surgeon told her that he only ever sees breast reduction as a temporary procedure, because they almost always grow back. The thing is that now, even though I'm the same bra size, I don't hate them in the same way that I did before. Partly I suppose because I'm older and more accepting, but I don't think that's really the reason. The real reason is because due to fantastic work by Bravissimo, (and the bra ladies on mumsnet!) it is now fairly well known that needing a 32GG bra does not make you some sort of circus freak, its actually quite a common size. And because of that, bra manufacturers have got their arses in gear and started catering to people who need bigger sizes, making prettier and more comfortable bras. And the more people that buy them, the more choice there will be, and the better the fit will become, and the more comfortable they will be, and the more choice there will be, and the more people will buy them etc etc Its self fulfilling.

At 22 I was in a terrible state partly because there was only one bra available in the UK in my size. And it only came in white. Now at 38, I have a choice of dozens, possibly hundreds. Progress has been made, but there is still work to be done!
