AIBU?

To think it wouldn't be too hard to tidy up a bit

www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-29307840.html

I put this on another thread but thought it was so revolting it deserved its own thread.

How can anyone not be embarrassed to invite people in to photograph this, let alone think anyone will want to come and view it? Confused

But that isn't just 'left overnight mess'- have you seen the kitchen carpet?

But presumably someone owns it whether that's a person or a bank. Why not spend £200 having someone clean it up? It makes no sense. It's a nice house and lots of people will be put off by those photos rather than looking past the carnage.

I might be being totally naive, but even if it was death or repossession, wouldn't someone try and tidy up a bit in order to achieve a sale...... Who? Often there isn't anyone.

Estate agents do it? You must be joking. They know the property will sell and wouldn't waste the tiniest bit of money or effort cleaning it up in this situation.

When a friend of mine split up with her boyfriend and wanted her half of the money back out of their house, he deliberately made it difficult to sell by refusing to keep it clean or tidy (he was still living there, she'd moved out).

From a purely commercial point of view surely the estate agent would advise the vendor to spend a bit of time/ money on tidying it up a bit in order to sell it, whatever the story behind it is?

OMG what is going on in picture 6? It looks like the sheets are taking on human form and rising up from the bed?? You can see the outline of two arms.

Did you ever see the film of the MR James ghost story, think it's called 'Whistle and I'll Come to you" where this happens? Proper scary.

Or maybe it's the owner/tenant having a lie-in and hiding their head under the sheets?

If a bank own it, they simply engage estate agents to sell. Estate agents will not have a problem selling an untidy house.

Tbh whoever lived in it mostly likely was either physically or mentally ill. Even if it appeared as them just being slovenly they were probably suffering with depression or OCD or both.

The estate agent will be very puzzled by all these Rightmove hits... Smile

Well OP they can advise them to tidy up but they cant nake them. Estate agents arent an authority- yoir're just paying them to put it on the market. They get no say.

The vendor is likely to be an estate (ie a deceased persons trustee), a bank, or someone too scared to come back. None of those people care if a couple of K get knocked off the asking price for a bit of untidiness. It's just not as simple as "get someone to clear it up". The estate agents are on the front line of this and they're not going to pay £200 for a clear out.

Weird, I kind of think no photos would be better, but then none of the damage looks structural and the photos do show the rooms are decent sizes...

It's not students. There aren't enough beds in the house. Students don't make that sort of mess. Also, it's a knocked through lounge/diner. A student house would use one of those as a bedroom. The furniture is also wrong.
I suspect a sudden death/ mental incapacity.

Hmmm.... I viewed a house in a slightly lesser state of dishevelment (?) and the owner kept talking about his wife wanting to sell. Five parrots in cages, complete with bird shit flicked on the carpets, no carpets at all upstairs, partly fitted bathroom and holes punched in the doors. I didn't make an offer but it was very clear there was a sad story to tell.

But the agent doesn't have to show photos.

Probably would be best not to...

Is that a fair price for the area then, mineof?

But an agent can't say 'pigsty' only in 'need of renovation'. The photos are the agent being honest and showing that someone would need a skip (or two) just to get to the bare bones.
