She responds by posing in the Daily Mail with her abuser, and dropping the charges.

I think Freudian brings up a good point, it may not even have been her who called them in the first place. She may still be at the point where she is unwilling to phone the police or press charges. It took me a good year to leave and that was after someone else phoned them.

Its possible she has posed with BF in an attempt to convince people (and herself?) that its all good with him now.

its possible he insisted on them posing together so he can say "of course i didnt do it- why would she still be with me/ go on the paper with me if i'd hit her"

Its possible she is still really confused about how to leave this relationship and considering that she didnt get support from the first port of call, she may have lost the confidence to actually call anyone else or try and leave again.

Supposing I found that my dd's sixth form teacher had been talking about her as a fucking slag- would I find that ok because it was in the staff room to a college and he didn't realise he was being overheard? What's wrong with regarding the police as a profession that needs to uphold certain standards?
