To fly off the handle when workmates constantly comment on my small figure

I'm so sick and tired of daily comments on my weight. I'm 52kg 5 foot 4 and have been this size since I can remember. My high metabolism makes it really hard to put on weight which is a problem if I'm unwell, nothing to fall back on. I'm constantly under scrutiny and having to explain to work mates after comments like "don't you eat"? "I'd give anything to be your size". Etc. Half of them I don't even know. I'd never dream of commenting on someone's weight. Feel like telling them to zip it and mind their own bloody business!

ArtexMonkey "i'm sure no one would dream of saying 'wow you're a right fat jabba aren't you love?'"

I'm going to guess you've never been on the chubby side yourself Grin

Oddly, the thing that most brings out the insults IME, is exercising. Ironically. Waddle along the pavement being porky in a tracksuit and you might get eye-rolls and people nudging each other, but break into a run and suddenly everyone has an insult or quip to shout at you.

Mrs DV/FuckingWankwings

Apart from adverts that present food as "naughty", the ones that portray it as so nice it'll give you an orgasm (but only women) are the ones I hate.

Never going to see a man doing the O face eating a peperami on British TV

TwirlyCat · 17/02/2014 18:32

YANBU. Pre DD I was naturally quite underweight even in my 30's and every man and his dog wanted to comment and scrutinise every item of food I put in my mouth. It is hard to enjoy your food when some of your colleagues seem to be making a log of your diet.

I can sympathise, my once friendly colleagues turned on me when I lost 20lbs and started dressing for my new size. There was chocolate and cakes in the office everyday and nasty comments when I politely refused.
One time I was eating my lunch in the tea room and every single person who walked in and out commented that I was eating a huge amount and "didn't think you ate anymore" and "never seen you eat so much".
I was eating pasta carbonara from the local cafe for gods sake! Not helpful comments to a former anorexic as i then started questioning if I was eating too much and felt guilty.
Women can't win!

Nobody should be commenting on a colleague's body in a professional context.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 17/02/2014 21:43

TBH MrsDeV, they're mostly men and, well, 'Adonis' just doesn't cover it Grin

Lucky I have a skin as thick as my blubber, really.

Mauricemenor? I'm 5,4" and 9 and half stone when I was 8 1/2 stone I was "too. Skinny" now iv got tummy fat and no longer have pancakes for tits..so op may well be thin and it bothers her that people constantly point it out I know it would bother me..what of the tables turned and she started binging to gain weight it's akin to an eating disorder cuased by society and it's opinions on people bodies.

I loved:-) the comment that a slow metabolism is a myth and an excuse for an overweight person who is deemed to sit around all day eating chips and pies. Yet a slim person is allowed to have a fast metabolism. The whole weight obsession has got out of hand.

I don't think a day goes by when food or weight contributes to feeling bad about myself. I hate going to the doctors now as everything is blamed on weight. People make rude comments about height too. I often feel like saying "you didn't get any better looking"! Of course I don't.
