AIBU?

To think a fresh ravioli 'for two' pack from the supermarket barely does one person?

Or am I just greedy? Just finished a waitrose mushroom filled ravioli pack for two in about 5 minutes flat. This is not unusual. Apart from breastfeeding I've no excuse for big eating. I'm neither big nor small (10-12). Does anyone genuinely share these?

I can't eat a whole pack to myself but I agree with you that they seem a bit stingy for 2 if that is your whole meal. Obviously can make it do 2 if you bulk it out with extras but I agree they are more like a 1.5 person serving!

Carbs should only be 1/4 of the meal. We try and have 2 vegetables and 1 protein (meat, fish or soy). I do break that rule often, but dh never does.

Correction. Should have said...
" We try and have 2 vegetables and 1 protein (meat, fish or soy) with the carb. (rice/pasta/potato/bread.)

I fight that portion size fine. My dp less so. We have running issues with portion control re pasta in our house.

I rarely eat carbs, especially pasta, but would eat half a pack before I were full.

YANBU. Agree with thebitterboy that they're too big for one pack each but not enough to share. Designed to make you buy extras to serve with.

The OP is a size 10/12 though, which is slim. I think the portions are tiny and would add salad and a chicken breast if it were for two people, but I don't eat fatty foods like that every day ( I prefer the ricotta one). It's when you eat double portions or more every day, obesity becomes a problem .

One pack served with olive oil & parmesan and a side salad does my DH and I fine. I find these fresh ravioli/tortellini etc really filling....no way could I eat a whole pack myself.

It's not something I eat very often, any more, but I always found a pack to be plenty for two people, with lots of sauce and extra veg.

One pack for two of us here. Would normally have some salad or vegetables on the side and some Parmesan and a drizzle of olive oil over the pasta.

I think you need to clarify what weight there is in a pack of fresh ravioli as there seems to be a variation in how much you get in a pack.

Tesco ravioli comes in 250g, 300g and 400g packs
Waitrose is in 250g and 350g packs
Morrisons in 250g, 300g and 400g packs
Asda 250g and 300g packs

All according to MySupermarket

OH and I find a 250g pack with a large salad between us plenty to eat. We share a 300g pack between three of us - OH, 13 year old DD and myself. I serve it with pesto, freshly grated parmesan and salad.

If a 250g pack of filled pasta isn't enough with salad/vegetables then you have a very hearty appetite.

I like the ones like spicy sausage filled or ham and cheese tortellini. They are in 300g packs as just checked. I easily can eat that, which I often do on my lunchbreak. I wouldnt say that was an amount for two.

I always thought the pack was the portion. Im only 7 and a half stone though at 5 foot 3.

I would say that half of those packs is fine for a meal - even more so if you add side salad. And no, I wouldn't feel the need to add a sauce or lots of other ingredients to make it a meal, I'd normally just add balsamic vinegar, a bit of olive oil and some fresh basil (I thought the point of these packs is that it's basically instant food).

I guess different people have different ideas of acceptable portion size, and different amounts they need to feel full, which is why some people struggle more than others with their weight and dieting, what would feel like a perfectly reasonable amount of food to me might feel like really crap self denial to someone with a larger appitite.

I just pour jar sauce on. Im not as fancy as some of these although they sound very nice!

I usually have one pack of the waitrose one between DH and I. But I always make a cheese sauce and a salad to go with it. And I am a very small eater. I only need a main when eating out. I eat about 2-3 slices of Pizza Hut pizzas. I think maybe waitrose based the serving size on petite woman Grin
