AIBU?

To think a fresh ravioli 'for two' pack from the supermarket barely does one person?

Or am I just greedy? Just finished a waitrose mushroom filled ravioli pack for two in about 5 minutes flat. This is not unusual. Apart from breastfeeding I've no excuse for big eating. I'm neither big nor small (10-12). Does anyone genuinely share these?

They're disgusting, processed salty crap.

1 pack for two is fine with salad.

I think they serve two children. With some salad on the side.

One pack between two, with tomato sauce.
Perfect quick dinner.

In Italy, pasta often is a starter dish. So you'd eat that and then a meat or a fish course. And then pudding. Wonderful country.

I have an entire pack to myself if I'm just having it plain or with a sauce. When dh is around we have to bulk it up with veg to make it enough for 2. I always thought we were just very greedy so it's nice to know we're not the only ones!

And I'm not overweight. Not even close.

We eat them between the two of us with a bit of tomato sauce and spinach/kale/broccoli/whatever is to hand. Neither DP or I would want more after that. But I guess we all have different appetites. When I am just going for a quick run and cycling to work, the above is absolutely fine, but when I go for a 15km run on a weekend I would probably gnaw my own arm off after that portion...

Me and DS (4) tend to use about 3/4 of a packet between us but I generally have smaller potions than average I think.

I usually split a pack over two meals, so I guess my appetite fits the serving on the label (unlike with soup. Who the fuck eats 1/2 a tin of soup? Really, you end up with 1/4 of a bowl of veg soup. That is not lunch. That is a culinary mockery.)

The above does not apply if I have been running or on a long hike. Then I will eat the full packet and everything else that is in the fridge before attempting to sleep/hibernate for 48 hours.

And this is why we have an obesity crisis, we've completely lost sight of what adequate, reasonable portion sizes are. And I say that as an overweight person myself.

Not necessarily. It depends on so many factors. As I said above I would usually eat a 'serves 2' meal just for me - yet, according to charts, I'm very slightly underweight (although I'm not, I'm fine really, but certainly not fat which is my point).

DH and I share one pack with arrabiata sauce and a piece of garlic bread. I suppose it depends whether you snack during the day or have pudding too. I do both, unfortunately Grin.

I am content with a half.. but my 3 year old will happily eat a whole by herself (then a bowl of raspberries too!)

It's that old 'meal' vs 'meal conponent' :)

I long for the days of 12 weeks pregnant and no appetite whatsoever, when I'd eat a pack of m&s posh ravioli over Three Days. Ahhh twas great!

What weight is it?

We share a 300gm pack of filled pasta between the three of us, but I serve lots of salad with it as well.

But how much pasta is in a pack?

OH and I would share a 250gm pack.

The cheaper fresh ravioli packets will do 2, although we add veg to the sauce or have salad or on the side +/- garlic bread to bulk it up. Posh ravioli comes in smaller packets and you need one each.

60 gms is the amount of parts I have but I absolutely love the stuffed fresh variety and would have no problem eating the lot

A 60gm pack of fresh ravioli is stingy. No wonder you need at least one each.

I think the suggested serving sizes on supermarket meals are too small.

One pack quite easily serves two here. Bit of tomato based sauce or pesto and veg.

We (2 of us) have it with fish or chicken, asparagus, and always have a salad before.
Or I drop them into a soup.

I don't know what these are but would tend to think that a portion size would be based on something (ie worked out from what we actually need), therefore is, objectively, enough for 2 and shouldn't be dismissed as a 1 or 1.5 serving just because an individual can eat that.

This thread seems like evidence for the theory that we, as a society, don't know what a portion should be anymore and overeat without thinking we are.

That doesn't mean that everybody who does this will be fat as it obviously depends on what else is eaten, activity levels, metabolism and genes etc. But it might help explain why more people are getting fatter.
