Frenulum - smiley piercing in 14DD

Just found out from third person that DD had smiley piercing done 2 months ago! I was really shocked because I had told her how much I hate facial piercings. I let her keep it in hoping that she'll eventually get bored of it and remove it.She wears a really small one for school that doesn't show. I'm still in shock that she did it behind my back and my main worry is hygiene and the damage it could cause to her teeth. DH doesn't know and would go mad if he found out.Anyone else had a similar experience?

If it's that small that neither school nor her own mother noticed it; what on earth is the point of it? Confused

Oh, x post.

Why!? Honestly.

carolinecupcake · 15/02/2014 21:31

She wears a very small bar which doesn't even touch the teeth and that's the reason I didn't notice it. I had to make her lift her lip up. She's been using mouthwash so I suppose by now it's already healed - it looks fine.It was good to hear people's opinions cos I haven't told anyone about it yet mainly for fear of being judged as an awful mother! Apart from this I' d say we have good communication so maybe it's best just to let her keep it and be thankful that it's nothing permanent and that it hasn't got infected!

Sounds like the OP's DD doesn't smile very much then. Sad

I have a 14 year old DS and there is no way. But he has train track braces so has a mouthful of metal anyway at the moment. Grin

Why?! Just why! 14?

cargotrousers · 15/02/2014 21:37

I thought body piercing was illegal for under 16s?

whomadeyougod · 15/02/2014 21:49

it does take the enamel off the teeth so be warned my ex had loads of piercings in his mouth he had this one and one at the bottom also 7 (maybe 8) in his tongue he lost the enamel and lost the gum on his front teeth (i think he has lost his teeth now) you could literally see the bone

Any piercer charging less than £10 and piercing 14 year olds without a parent there to consent is a skanky hole that should be shut down! And yes I do have teenagers.

I had mine for around a year before it started to grow out. It made a small indent in my gums, bit that soon disappeared after it was removed. it healed quickly, I had absolutely no problems with it. Let her keep it, they're a bastard to clean anf at 14 I wouldn't of had the time or patience for it. sure she will lose interest in it soon.
