To not want to encourage raspberries?

A bit petty but here goes.
DS is 14 months.
Has good oro-motor development
Has a handful of words, mum, dad, woof, hiya, more, milk, hi 5, bye.
He is very communicative and playful.

MIL keeps encouraging him to blow raspberries. He can do these easily and loudly. They sound very trump like!!
I'd rather not encourage it but it's become her party trick with him and she kind of shows off!

Would you say anything? I think it will get less cute as he gets older.

It's not like she's teaching him to flip the finger.

My DM kept trying to get my DS to say "oh oh" like a fucking tellytubby (this was before they'd even been invented & put on the TV) - it drove me nuts.

Sorry I'm actually crying with laughter at this thread, especially Worra's contributions! Grin

I do think you will enjoy your life a lot more, if you try to learn to relax.

You say it's a small issue, most parents would say this was a non-issue.

SomethingkindaOod · 15/02/2014 21:28

DS once said Bloody Hell in font of a health visitor. I would have been much happier if he'd have blown a raspberry....
YABU, don't worry about it, I'm sure he'll grow out of it soon enough.

SomethingkindaOod · 15/02/2014 21:29

In front of a health visitor. There were no fonts in the room!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 15/02/2014 21:34

How on earth could this be an ICT thread???

WeAreDetective · 15/02/2014 21:36

I bring you...

the raspberry pi

It's been huge in the world of IT for about two years now

WeAreDetective · 15/02/2014 21:41

They have a massive role in teaching children how to programme a computer (a skill lost since the development of Microsoft really).

So it cross my mind that, if this wasn't a thread about raspberry plants then it might be a thread about the use of raspberry pis in school.

But certainly not a thread about a cute baby making funny noises!

Twattyzombiebollocks · 15/02/2014 22:04

Seriously? There's nothing wrong with raspberry blowing in a 14 month old baby. By the time it becomes undesirable behaviour they are old enough to learn when it is ok to do it and when it is not. That's the whole point of undesirable behaviours that they become undesirable at the time that the child is old enough to know better. Until that point they are just being small children and small children do stuff like pick their noses and examine the products, put their hands down their pants in public and blow raspberries!

HungryHorace · 15/02/2014 22:23

You'll need the wipes, Writer! :-)

Is nobody else thinking of the Phantom Raspberry Blower of Old London Town?! Can't beat a bit of the Two Ronnies.

pixiepotter · 15/02/2014 22:29

Disappointed this was not a gardening thread :-(

ThatBloodyWoman · 16/02/2014 12:56

When they're older and grow out of blowing raspberries you can teach them how to do armpit farts.

My kids will grow up laughing, not fretting about what the neighbours think.

ThatBloodyWoman · 16/02/2014 12:59

Oh, and whoopee cushions.
We've worn out several.

You wouldn't necessarily take them to tea at the ritz, but where's the harm for a bit of fun.

sara1752 · 16/02/2014 13:06

This is the first I have ever heard of raspberries being a problem
Did I miss something?
