To not want to encourage raspberries?

A bit petty but here goes.
DS is 14 months.
Has good oro-motor development
Has a handful of words, mum, dad, woof, hiya, more, milk, hi 5, bye.
He is very communicative and playful.

MIL keeps encouraging him to blow raspberries. He can do these easily and loudly. They sound very trump like!!
I'd rather not encourage it but it's become her party trick with him and she kind of shows off!

Would you say anything? I think it will get less cute as he gets older.

Oh my. I do this to random babies in supermarket queues and doctors waiting rooms...I'm a monster!

QOD · 15/02/2014 16:01

Ha ha Worra love it!
My friends son used to start off with duck duck duck then he went alphabetically uck (the uh sound for a I mean) buck cuck duck eeeeeyuck fuck etc
He was allllllwwwwwaaaays at the fuck point as granny arrived or we walked into a shop, or at the clinic ... Was very funny.

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 15/02/2014 16:15

Ooo dear.
Try to enjoy your little one.
One thing's for sure, you can 'police' this kind of thing all you like but they'll find something that'll set your teeth on edge whatever you do.
T'is nature's way Grin

ThatBloodyWoman · 15/02/2014 16:18

I think it's nothing to worry about.Honest.

deelite72 · 15/02/2014 16:19

Oh for heavens sake... by the time they master the art of blowing raspberries, they're onto something else and then they're off to uni or wherever. Enjoy the ride. It goes by so fast. I am sorry to sound patronizing, I don't mean to, but in all honesty, you will have bigger fish to fry with your LO, with or without MIL's input. Childhood doesn't last forever and neither do grandparents. I'd let this one slide and let nana have her bit of bonding with her grandchild.

ThatBloodyWoman · 15/02/2014 16:20

When he's older teach him to sing ' beans, beans, good for your heart. The more you eat, the more you fart.' Followed with a ripe raspberry.

WorraLiberty · 15/02/2014 16:40

Or when you're wheeling him around Sainsburys and he suddenly points and screams, FAAAAAAT FUCKERRRR!!!

No-one hears you whisper frantically, "No darling, it's pronounced Frankfurter!!!

They really don't

candycoatedwaterdrops · 15/02/2014 16:50

This isn't a small issue, it's a non issue. I wonder if you like your MIL....

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/02/2014 17:11

Good grief, how joyless do you have to be to worry about a baby blowing a raspberry?!Hmm

wibblyjelly · 15/02/2014 18:06

DS is 16 months old, and has just discovered blowing raspberries on me. I bought him into bed this morning especially so he could show dh bad mother

SpocksThirdEar · 15/02/2014 18:07

I just blew a raspberry at my 9 yo and he looked at me like I'd gone doolally! He's obviously grown out of it.

Raspberries are the best, especially when blown on baby tummies or feet.

ethelb · 15/02/2014 18:07

yabu for saying trump. What are you? Five?

Ey up everlong, I thought this was going to be about fruit growing too. Sad

Feminine · 15/02/2014 19:03

I am really laughing. Well done for taking parenting so seriously! You have really read the baby books haven't you?

TheresNoMeWithoutYou · 15/02/2014 19:08

Its fun. Also good for development of the tongue muscle. This will improve diction as your DD gets older. Or not. Maybe it is just fun.

Writerwannabe83 · 15/02/2014 19:10

I can't stand raspberries!! Seeing babies do them makes me grimace!

Watching adults blow raspberries on their baby's stomach (or any body part actually) makes me want to vomit!

Andcake · 15/02/2014 19:36

Ds went through a phase of doing this at 9 mo and soon got bored. Why on earth does he know 'hi5' ?

HungryHorace · 15/02/2014 19:45

7 mo DD loves blowing raspberries. When she wakes in the morning she babbles and blows raspberries to herself. It's quite cute. Not so cute when she blows one in my face and covers me with spit, but never mind! :-)

Writer, you'll be grimacing loads when your baby's here as blowing raspberries is just something they do as a developmental thing!

They also love it when you blow them onto their tummy...the laughs which come down the stairs from her when DH is doing that is just adorable!

Writerwannabe83 · 15/02/2014 19:53

I'll be hovering in the background Horace with the wet wipes Grin

CouthyMow · 15/02/2014 19:56

I still blow raspberries to my 15yo DD. And she blows them back. Less obvious than a kiss - it's a form of endearment in our family, so to me, YABU!

meerschweinchen · 15/02/2014 19:58

worra That's hilarious! Grin

charitygirl · 15/02/2014 19:59

Argh the horror that something might sound like a fart (I think that's the word you're looking for). Does anyone really find that rude?

Writerwannabe83 · 15/02/2014 20:02

It's the spit, slobber and saliva that I have issues with.... Grin
