To wonder why there are so many pregnancy test posts in chat?

Is it just attention seeking? (I suspect in many cases it is.)

Are they unable to find the appropriate forums?

Should there be an entire forum devoted to 'look at this piece of piss-soaked plastic'?

There's more traffic in Chat so they get more opinions / responses.

I quite like the POAS threads. You could always hide or ignore them.

BerniceBroadside · 15/02/2014 08:43

Ah, more traffic. Definitely attention seeking then. ;)

OP posts:
maras2 · 15/02/2014 08:56

That's rather mean Bernice. Who pissed on your cornflakes ?

HungryHorace · 15/02/2014 08:56

I don't think it's attention seeking as such, just that if you want answers, posting something in a topic with very few active posters won't get you (m)any.

HungryHorace · 15/02/2014 08:56

Oh, and you can't post images in the Conception threads either.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2014 08:57

Cheer up Bernice. Use the 'Hide this thread' if they are offending you. Every single thread started on MN is attention seeking isn't it?

BerniceBroadside · 15/02/2014 09:02

Maras2, clearly one of the poas posters did!

I do have sympathy for some. I just think it's odd to post in chat when you're clearly pregnant. Probably because fertility is such an emotive subject and I always though that it was considered good forum etiquette to keep pregnancy chat to the appropriate forum, if one exists.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2014 09:03

I think they just want a quick second opinion TBH.

Redpriestandmozart · 15/02/2014 09:07

ashamed to say but I love a good POAS thread Blush I never go to the pregnancy boards and all my friends like myself are passed that stage. So a POAS thread is as close as l get to the excitement these days.

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2014 09:11

I prefer them to the 'I am going to POAS some time in the next 24 hours/when DH gets back from the shop 20 miles away type ones. Instant yes/no. Grin

BerniceBroadside · 15/02/2014 09:13

Redpriest, there are many types of home test out there. Would you like me to do a live cholesterol or chlamydia test for your entertainment?

Sparkling, in some cases I agree, but some people really like to drag out the drama.

Do you think I'm pregnant?

I can't buy a test because a yeti ate the pharmacy.

Finally have a test!

Oh, it didn't work. Bad test!

Grin

Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2014 09:18

Yes there are those ones Bernice. Grin I think the 'thread etiquette' should be to actually have a test in your hand before your OP in those cases.
And no 'I have a 3 year old test from Poundland it will have to do'. Grin

IdRatherPlayHereWithAllTheMadM · 15/02/2014 09:23

More traffic and why not this is a chatty forum?

MoveYourArmsLikeHenry · 15/02/2014 09:51

I posted a POAS thread not long ago here. Just like the one you described. It was because I like this forum and have come to know posters in it, I feel supported in this forum. The people who replied back to me were very helpful and I appreciated their responses. Yes the result was negative, and I was secretly very disappointed, so yes "bad test" as you so charmingly put it.

themaltesefalcon · 15/02/2014 09:58

They are popular threads. I don't get it myself but each to their own.

LST · 15/02/2014 09:58

Just hide the thread op.. this is afterall a parenting site..

BerniceBroadside · 15/02/2014 09:59

I meant bad test as in it didn't work properly, therefore prolonging the drama, not as in not the preferred result.

I've taken enough (negative) tests in my time to sympathise, but the drama llamas do get on my wick. Sparkling is right, it should be compulsory to have a test in hand before posting.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 15/02/2014 10:00

YY every 'should I go and buy a test?' will be accompanied by 'YES!!' so get one first. Grin

HungryHorace · 15/02/2014 10:30

God, yes, those are annoying.

Am I pregnant?

Have you had sex? If yes, go and but a bloody stick to piss on and find out.

The threads with pictures of sticks already pissed on are far preferable!

Coumarin · 15/02/2014 10:46

I think they're my most hidden threads. 'Am I pregnant?' How the fuck would we know? Hmm

Back2Basics · 15/02/2014 10:50

Argh YANKS it's so annoying. Those threads are the most annoying on MY I would prefer to read anything but POAS threads.

They are all the same, I'm due on soon and my boobs hurt, I've snapped at dp and feel sick. Do you think I'm pregnant.

Ffs go and get a test and deal with it.

Back2Basics · 15/02/2014 10:50

Argh spell check I meant YANBU

candycoatedwaterdrops · 15/02/2014 10:56

They're annoying because like a PP said, how the fuck would we know if you're pregnant?

sebsmummy1 · 15/02/2014 11:02

Hmmm I'm on the fence here. Currently I'm possibly a little a lot more sensitive to POAS threads because if my personal circumstances. But having been in a situation where I wanted opinions on whether anyone else could see a squinter of a line, I was grateful of responses. Didn't post in chat though.

I feel more aggrieved by those people who write emotive thread titles re. being pregnant and not wanting to be, usually with a few Aaaargh, FFSs thrown in when there are so many women on here who are so desperate and would do anything to be pregnant and go to term.

shoofly · 15/02/2014 11:49

Yes some of them are a bit annoying, but they're in CHAT - Sometimes people just want to chat - Sometimes I have no interest in inane (as I see it at that particular time) -so I don't join in - Surely that's the point of Chat - you witter on about whatever you want and then it vanishes - If you don't like it hide it or ignore it.
