AIBU to think the last adult to bed checks doors?

Dp just came home from work and told me quite frankly that I left the front door unlocked all night. I went to bed first...

I told him I assumed he would check and I assumed the last adult up always did this.

Assumption is not my friend it seems.

How does it work in your house and AIBU

P.s. dp is 2 days into giving up smoking and the world hates him

YANBU, that would be my assumption as well. Unfortunately DH has forgotten on more than a few occasions, leaving the back door unlocked at least 3 times I can recall and last week the front door actually ajar!

I usually go to bed first, but since DH doesn't tend to go out after that I check the doors are all locked. If I don't I wake up in the night and then have to get up to check!

In our house, once we are all 'in' for the evening, the curtains are pulled at the front door. Curtains are never drawn across until door is locked, so we always know that curtain pulled = door locked.

Back door is always locked when we are all 'in' for the evening too, but the keys stay in the door until bedtime, when they are removed (a source of contention, as I think we are more at risk of house fire, and not being able to find our keys, whereas DH thinks they need removed from the door so that no one can break the glass and turn the keys).

So, basically, we don't really have a last thing at night lock up routine, we just do it when we're home for the night.

Locking up is DH's job in this house.

If he has gone up to bed before me (rare) then I do check to make sure everything is off/locked etc but he has always done it before he goes up. The only exception is if the washing machine or dryer have been on in the garage, the internal door might still need locking.

I always check it, even though it should be the last one up.

We used to do the last one to bed locks up. Until xh fell asleep on the sofa with the door unlocked and we had an escapee toddler. Now I'm on my own I tend to lock in once we're in for the night, then lock it again when I've taken the dog for a last pee at night.

But I did discover my back door had been unlocked for god knows how long the other week. That said, the chest freeer is up against it.
