www.lep.co.uk/news/local/yob-spared-jail-for-breaking-man-s-jaw-1-6429381

Shaking with anger right now Angry the article doesn't tell the full story, the comments fill in some gaps.

Op if you haven't already then please use victim support. They can be really helpful.

newnewnewname · 10/02/2014 16:27

There's nothing they can do. I couldn't hug him for a month because it hurt his neck and jaw, he still hasn't regained all the feeling in his face. He can't/wont talk about how he feels. I know he feels horrible, but I don't really know how he feels because he doesn't talk about it.

I hate this man, I hate him. It's all a joke to him. He's too stupid to really understand what he did.

He did everything he could to escape arrest and conviction, he's not sorry, he's just sorry he was caught

I sympathise with you and can understand your rage. I hope your husband gets better soon and that the tosser who hit him picks on someone less civilised next time. All the best

MrsHappyBee · 10/02/2014 16:32

Your poor DH unable eat or talk properly for a month (744 hours) and this thug has to do 120 hours community service. How is that justice?
These nasty types are making life in the UK a misery, you cant enjoy a night out with your mates without running the risk of getting punched for accidentally bumping into someone. Women are just as bad. I wish we could dump them on an island somewhere and let them get on with it.

newnewnewname · 10/02/2014 16:36

MrsHappy it didnt even happen that simply. dh knocked him when he walked in, 10 mins later, the yob takes a running jump at him and hits him from behind/the side. Surgeons said that if he'd turned his head and it had hit his nose, he might've died.

Anniemousse · 10/02/2014 16:39

I'm really sorry this happened to your DH. I am not surprised you are angry. The sentence does seem too lenient to me. Hope he recovers well x

songlark · 10/02/2014 16:45

More prisons should be built. I'm afraid the only answer to violent crime is long prison sentences. Get them off the streets because they're not fit to live amongst civilised people. Only when the the government decide to get tough with violent scumbags will we see less of this kind of thing. The justice system in Britain is a joke. There's nothing to fear for them, they know full well that all that often happens is a slap on the wrist. Give the yobs something to fear and violent crime will drop. It's not rocket science.

newnewnewname · 10/02/2014 16:47

He was planning holidays even before he was sentenced!!!! No fear of prison at all!

whomadeyougod · 10/02/2014 16:55

total scum , these judges need to live in the real world as well , anyone who does something like that is not remorseful , like you say new they are just sorry they got caught , hope your husband makes a full recovery .

songlark · 10/02/2014 17:28

Forgot to say, best wishes for your husband. Hope he makes a speedy recovery. The scum that did it will hopefully one day get whats coming.x

LittleBabyPigsus · 10/02/2014 17:47

songlark but the answer then surely isn't to build more prisons, but to make sure that the people in prison are there for violent/sexual etc crime only? Someone who's in there for shoplifting or fraud shouldn't really be in there - they should still be punished, but they're not a threat to the public in the same way. There should be more effective punishment that doesn't involve prison for non-violent/non-sexual crime, and better rehabilitation strategies. Just putting all criminals in prison leads to MORE crime and reoffending, not less.

Also the 'yob' label is really misleading when a lot of violent crime is committed by naice middle-class people. There is a lot of classism when it comes to how criminals are labelled. Poverty, of course, is the source of a lot of crime but mostly non-violent.

songlark · 10/02/2014 17:57

Littlebaby......I entirely agree about non violent crimes not being punished by prison. The way I look at it is...either don't imprison non violent offenders unless it's persistent ones or else build more prisons to make sure that the violent ones are locked away. One way or another they shouldn't be on the streets. But if no more prisons are to be built and decisions have to be made as to who gets locked up then it should always be the violent ones. When I use the word yob I refer to anyone who commits such horrible crimes such as what happened to ops husband.Their social standing is irrelevant to me, working class, middle class, it doesn't matter. A yob is a yob.

Theodorous · 10/02/2014 17:57

MtsHappy, Didn't that happen in Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy? Didn't they send all the stupid people up into space? Because we have the technology now. Lovely thought.

ShatzePage · 10/02/2014 18:12

Yanbu op. Justice costs money and unfortunately the government don't want to spend any more and are in fact slashing the money they give to legal services.

Sadly too many people read trashy papers and believe the bollocks spouted about fat cat lawyers but they will be the first in the queue greetin' about the lack of justice if god forbid anything bad ever happens to them or theirsHmm

Honeysweet · 10/02/2014 18:47

Littlebaby. It is posters like you which means that no Government has enough incentive to build another prison.
Out of interest, do you think that the attacker in the link should have gone to prison, even for a short time?

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 10/02/2014 18:51

scummy bastard and what a shocking role model to his kids - i'm with you OP, i've known friends of friends who've gotten a jail sentence for less.

DroothyNeebor · 10/02/2014 18:57

Could your DH possibly sue the thug for loss of earnings?

WelshMaenad · 10/02/2014 19:11

I'm rely sorry for what your family have been through. You're right, it is a joke, no wonder you're so angry. I hope your DH continues to make a good recovery.

WelshMaenad · 10/02/2014 19:11

*really.

insummeritrains · 10/02/2014 19:15

Utter scum. Sympathies to you and your DH, OP.

And clarkson..do FOD.

SarahAndFuck · 10/02/2014 19:19

OP I'm sorry this has happened to your DH. I hope you can all move on from this now, although I appreciate that moving on has been made so much more difficult because of this ridiculous sentence.

I hope your DH recovers from his ordeal soon.

Wantsunshine · 10/02/2014 19:37

What a piece of scum, sentence is way too lenient. No point using the thug for loss of earnings I would imagine he is living off the state.

flippinada · 10/02/2014 20:11

Oh newname how horrendous, your poor DH. No wonder you are so angry, justifiably so IMO. I hope your DH makes a good recovery..as for the waste of space who did this, rest assured he will come to a bad end.

Ignore the goady idiot.

PortofinoRevisited · 10/02/2014 20:17

When I did jury service the guy got 18 months for ABH. This had involved kicking a man and a woman in the head after they had been punched to the ground. He made much of the fact he was now working with disabled children. Hmm
