self entitled middle class??

As an 'out of towner' can people explain why the middle class in this fine city of London feel they are so god damned righteous?

I'm standing in a queue with my children at the local swimming pool, and judging by the car park, it's busy. We go in and join a long queue. A couple of the families in front of me take their turn at the counter, turn around in disgust, and pace back and forth, argue with each other and work themselves up into a frenzy. Assuming they are going swimming I ask what has happened with the pool. One of the ladies says, 'The pool is at capacity and if we want to go in we will have to wait until someone leaves,' her voice rises another octave and she continues, 'This is completely unacceptable!!'

Really? Unacceptable? If you were the first family in the pool and it got too crowded because they let everyone in would you just suck it up because it's unacceptable to let everyone in?

This is not the first time I've encountered this outrage and it always seems to be what I've deemed the 'self entitled middle class...'

Explanations please???

No chip, have loads of money myself and drive a fancy car. Just assuming people are middle class by what I would consider middle class and wondering why there seems to be this collective insecurity.

Am open to the possibility I am perhaps a bit too harsh and blunt...but at the moment everyone seems quite defensive and I don't have an argument that is convincing me otherwise!

You do know other areas of England though, don't you, because you described yourself as an "out of towner". Or do you not know anyone middle class where you live?

I think (and I'm probably the dictionary definition of middle class) that sometimes the middle classes do themselves no favours. I also think that they're an easy, lazy target for people who just want to have an ill-thought-out pop.

Maybe they were having a bad day. Or maybe they are twats. Not sure thats its a class thing though. Even if they happened to be middle class. Sounds like a silly thing to say though. Sometimes places are busy. You suck it up and wait or go elsewhere. Or join a private gym with a pool.

Loads of money and a fancy car don't make you middle class, dear.

Oh, you know...driving a land rover, being a dick in a swimming pool and living in London. That more or less covers it.

FYI, gyms with private pools may suit you and your loadsa money better than the council run one.

Just sayin.

Hmm so you have a fancy car yourself but because they got impatient they're somehow middle class? Gah Hmm

Do you have to be middle class to drive a Landrover?

Very strange.

Nope, never noticed a sense of entitlement coming from any particular "class", although one would assume that perhaps the upper class sorts may be a bit more used to having things their way? I don't know, they don't mix with working class scruffbags such as myself.

Rather than attack, explain to an 'out of towner' what middle class means. Perhaps I have the class system I have witnessed wrong?

Honest feedback, try not to take my comments personally!!

Why would anyone need what they perceive to be a 'fancy car' unless they have inferiority issues. Most people without issues buy decent cars if they can, for comfort, reliability, etc. how pitiful that what is basically a tool needs to be 'fancy'.

Clever, though, accusing posters of being defensive and saying you're not being personal. Sly.

Round here, people with Landrovers don't seem to be very classy at all, particularly those with white ones.

I once knew some very posh people who were incredibly rude to waiters.
They weren't rude to waiters because they were posh, they were rude to waiters because they were arseholes.

The way I see it:

Upper class - privileged, born into a long standing wealthy family.

Middle class - self-made, new money, desperately wants to distance themselves from the lower class, doesn't quite fit into the upper class, inferiority complex ensues, freaks out because local swimming pool can not accomodate

Can YOU explain what you think is middle class op? I think you may have been asked this earlier in the thread but I can't find your answer.

Out of Towner as in from where?

Class system pretty much ignored by all I know. I judge people on how they behave and how they treat others.

I don't give a flying fuck if they're billionaires or have nothing.
Its nothing to do with money, possessions, big cars or houses.
