To think that if the men on The Voice behaved in the same way as Kylie Minogue does there would be complaints?

I'm feeling increasingly uncomfortable about the way 45 year old Kylie is leering at teenage boys on The Voice. That coupled with suggestive comments about spending time together combined with sexy poses and raised eyebrows makes me squirm. Last night she did all of this to the 16 yr old Irish dancer in order to win him over to her team. If Ricky or Sir Tom did the same to 16 yr old girls people would be appalled.

I think it's a real shame that Kylie is being portrayed in this way (and that she is allowing it). Kylie has been v successful in the music industry for many years and it is this that she should be focusing on to "win" the singers.

All the hair flicking, posturing, flirting, pouting is OTT and actually serves to minimise her credibility. And I say this having been a bit of a Kylie fan since her Neighbours days!

CoffeeTea103 · 09/02/2014 10:32

Yes she came across cheap and inappropriate.

Sallystyle · 09/02/2014 10:44

I irrationally strongly dislike her.

Her stupid 'look at me' dancing makes her worse than Jessie J.

I was actually feeling like I wanted to throw a brick through my TV last night. She is running it for me Grin

littlebluedog12 · 09/02/2014 10:47

It all seemed a bit put on to me. I imagine she has been told to act like that.

Sallystyle · 09/02/2014 10:48

ruining

orangedog · 09/02/2014 10:50

I wonder how much is highlighted by the editing? I think it's a shame she's being portrayed like this as well. I would love it if she changed her dress style slightly. The LBD thing seems so out of place when Ricky and Will are so casually dressed.

I agree the flirting with the 16 year old was inappropriate and cheapened the show. The judges should be role models.

Glitterfeet · 09/02/2014 10:52

Found both Kylie suggestive flirting and the men drooling over the black dress women irritating. The comments went on and on and on.

They should call it I'm So Relieved They Look ok and Can Sing.

ivykaty44 · 09/02/2014 11:05

I have seen bits of this series and last years and that will bloke seems to flirt along with last nights leering at the girl in the skirt, but the thread is started about the one girl judge leering

They are all clearly leering and after the scandles with the BBC you would think it would be stopped

InThisTogether · 09/02/2014 11:10

YANBU I agree, in fact my OH commented on the same thing last night. It makes me very uncomfy to the point where I think she is starting to let women down. thoroughly disappointed by her.

NewtRipley · 09/02/2014 11:15

The other thing that has happened this year a few times is that one judge turns rounds and sees that the singer is attractive, they encourage the others to turn.

Hence, it is a nonsense (knew it anyway, but still) that it is about the Voice.

NewtRipley · 09/02/2014 11:16

As i said though, Ricky has been doing it too

NewtRipley · 09/02/2014 11:17

And not just last night. There have been a few teenage or slightly olderr girls and he has been a bit leery.

Yesterday was really ott with the pretty woman

Kaekae · 09/02/2014 11:20

She seems nice I prefer her to Jessie J who seemed to think the show was all about her. I am not so sure how much I believe the show anymore, I don't think they choose their own songs and no one is ever going to turn around for anyone singing opera, so what is the point in having them on?!

DownstairsMixUp · 09/02/2014 11:23

I missed it but that sounds hideous! What someone said above was right - I always found Amanda Holden spot on, that's the way i see boys that age like sweet and I can imagine girls their age liking them. I don't perv over them. Bit weird!

NewtRipley · 09/02/2014 11:24

I also don't hear what the judges are hearing. This year i have shouted at the telly a few times. They've ignored really good sings and turned for some pretty meh and/or flat/sharp singers.

It may be due to a difference in the acoustics in the studio vs the telly box but I am not sure

NewtRipley · 09/02/2014 11:24

Singers

FoxesRevenge · 09/02/2014 11:47

It's all one big edited fix.

"I think it's a shame she's being portrayed like this as well."

If it was a middle-aged bloke making suggestive comments at an 16yo girl, would we really be saying what a pity it was he let himself be portrayed this way? Or wouldn't we assume that he had some kind of responsibility for the way he came across?

I just find the use of the passive interesting here. As if a woman, even a 40+ woman with a long career behind her, is somehow a helpless object in the hands of the producer, an object to hang a dress- and a behaviour- on.

Do we think it's a shame that Simon Cowell has been portrayed as an arrogant twat on X-factor? Or do we think he might just possibly have had a hand in that?

As a woman who wants to compete with men on equal terms in the workplace I find this infantilising of women by shifting the responsibility deeply disturbing.

RedPencils · 09/02/2014 12:19

Haven't watched last nights yet but I've been shocked at how he has come over on the previous shows.
Real shame because I liked her a lot before this.

orangedog · 09/02/2014 12:28

There was a section last night about the male contestants not being able to resist Kylie. The producers are leading us (and the judges) in that direction IMO.
I wonder how Kylie felt about it when she watched the finished show. She's had a long and successful career and has kept reinventing herself to remain current. That's only been mentioned a few times - I think Will pointed it out.

cory · 09/02/2014 12:37

But surely Kylie Minogue herself is responsible for any comment she makes to a child or any poste she strikes aimed at a child, regardless of where the producers are leading her?

And why would needing to reinvent yourself to remain current be an excuse for a female performer if it is not equally an excuse for a male performer?

When did we ever see a comment excusing a male judge on a TV for inappropriate behaviour on the grounds that "he was being led by the producer"?

foslady · 09/02/2014 12:42

I'll interested to see how tgis show progresses, let's see how they are styled...

WanderingAway · 09/02/2014 12:48

I found last nights show ridiculous.

So just because you wear a dress that is split that high that you can basically see your fanny it means that you are stunning and sexy. That is not what i want my daughter to learn.

orangedog · 09/02/2014 12:56

Yes I agree with you cory - Kylie is responsible for the comments she makes and her interaction with the 16 year old ( and also the 18 year old) was inappropriate and unprofessional. But I also think that the producers are leading the show in that direction.

lionheart · 09/02/2014 13:01

I think that's a very good point, Cory.

The editing can only do so much, taking things out of context, distorting, accentuating and so on. At some point she (and the others) are responsible.
