to think cyclists ought to sit a test before being allowed on the road?

I live on a route popular with amateur cyclists. Yet again this morning another group of folk were causing absolute havoc on a two lane road. They aren't dressed properly, they don't signal, they don't even look where they're going. One man was weaving along instead of cycling in a straight line!

So while I have a cup of tea and a cake (for medicinal reasons)- aibu to think that they should have to be tested before being allowed on the road? I know drivers are the biggest hazard, but safety works both ways!

These are not commuters making their way to work but wannabe Bradley Wiggens with little road sense or consideration for their own safety or the safety of others.

It's not your road. It's everyone's. Annoying, isn't it? Calm down or move to a country that has a Zil lane and hope to be one of the people allowed in it.

Ironically, the OP has shown those tendencies in her multiple posts on the subject. Her attitude is truly scary as a fellow motorist, never mind a pedestrian or a cyclist or horse rider meeting her and her superiority, God-complex.

Post after post, full of intolerance and thinly veiled hatred for those she considers beneath her, driving home how superior she thinks she and her views are. Little or no tolerance for other members of the human race, who do not act in the way she thinks they ought. Perhaps they might be tolerated if they stay out of her way!

Sorry, but what the fuck are you talking about?

Sorry, but what the fuck are you talking about?

What the fuck do you think? Your posts. Your awful, intolerant posts, full of hatred, about people doing perfectly legal activities, who irritate you to the point that you do not think they should be there.

All the people you have criticised. All the exaggeration and projected anger. Its just horrible to read. I realise you have absolutely no idea how you come across, and it is absolutely beyond your experience in life to go and do something positive about your intolerance.

Such as getting out on the countryside on a Sunday morning and riding a bike. Can you actually ride a bike? Do you ever actually go anywhere under your own steam, or do you drive everywhere with steam coming out of your ears? And where the fuck are you driving in such a hurry on a Sunday that causes you to criticise random people in public spaces for daring to share the same air space as your great self?

What kind of person are you?

SantanaLopez · 02/02/2014 20:32

Are you being serious?

I don't tolerate people acting dangerously on the roads.

OP posts:
shebird · 02/02/2014 20:32

Excuse me limited but as I'm the one paying the road tax I think yes it is more my road than yours and if you want to be treated as an equal road user than obey the Highway Code, wear safety gear and pay road tax.

Goldmandra · 02/02/2014 20:37

pay road tax.

Nobody pays road tax.

Car owners pay for the privilege of using their car, not using the road and most cyclists pay that too.

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 02/02/2014 20:39

Quite a lot of cyclists are car drivers too.

Aye, because having licences for cars means drivers NEVER cause any accidents, doesn't it?

what a foolish argument

A dangerous driver who is caught breaking the law can be fined, be disqualified from driving, can be sent to prison.

A dangerous cyclist......

shebird · 02/02/2014 20:51

Steady on less all the OP is saying is that some cyclists do not take their safety seriously enough and perhaps some training is needed. How does that make her a waynetta slob?

SantanaLopez · 02/02/2014 20:51

?

Do I 'know' you or something? Run over your puppy?

OP posts:
jojoanna · 02/02/2014 20:57

Err less calm down

AmIHumanYet · 02/02/2014 20:57

Who would pay for the training, tests and insurance for cyclists?
Confused

OP, from what I've seen you DO have a sense of entitlement, it seems that you feel like you have more of a right to use the road, you just seem very intolerant!

SantanaLopez · 02/02/2014 21:01

I am entitled because I want people to behave safely on the roads?

I am worried that there will be an accident one day.

OP posts:
jojoanna · 02/02/2014 21:02

Surely the cyclists would pay for insurance .

AmIHumanYet · 02/02/2014 21:04

Why should they have to jojoanna, surely we should be encouraging people to cycle, not preventing people?

LessMissAbs · 02/02/2014 21:04

I can't stand bullies, I can't stand hearing their excuses for their bullying, and I particularly can't stand bullies who use being behind the wheel of a car as an excuse for bullying. I don't believe your last statement Santana, your comments have made me seriously uncomfortable because of your attitude shown towards other members of the public.

I ask again, why on earth do you live somewhere that is popular with cyclists at weekends? Is there not some sterile place next to a motorway you could live instead? It is presumably somewhere rural, and yes I'm afraid other human beings do like to enjoy the fresh air at weekends, including on bikes. Why do you choose to live where there are so many people who irritate you?

SantanaLopez · 02/02/2014 21:08

My comments? Please show me my comments and break down what made you feel uncomfortable.

I live in the Glasgow suburbs. Would you like the exact address so you can come and take notes next weekend?

OP posts:
jojoanna · 02/02/2014 21:08

I do think cyclists should have some insurance.

AmIHumanYet · 02/02/2014 21:10

jojoanna, does that include children and teenagers? Do you realise that that would prevent a lot of people from cycling which would be completely wrong?

Where I live the cycling craze seems to have exploded only in the last few years. They are mostly middle aged men probably higher rate tax layers like less who spend vast amounts on expensive bikes and gear and head out with their mates on a Saturday morning. Good for them I've got no problem with them wanting fresh air and exercise just don't ride 2/3 abreast chatting to your mates while frustrated motorists sit behind you.

Pedallleur · 02/02/2014 21:13

I haven't read all the thread but it's the usual diatribe about cyclists. So here we go with my bit.
No such thing as road tax, it's vehicle emissions duty based on the exhaust output of your car and as a result you may not pay anything. Cyclists don't emit pollution so no duty to pay.
Insurance/registration? The DVLA can't manage the cars that are on the road, it's estimated 1 in 10 cars have no insurance (2 million?) and therefore no VED/mot etc so how are they going to manage cyclists and who will enforce the regulations. The police struggle to cope with normal traffic regulation.
On my regular commutes by bike, my partner and I regularly see some cyclists who should take care but compared to the number of drivers failing to adhere to the speed limit/obey road markings/operating phones, tablets etc whilst driving/having their pet dog on their laps whilst driving/failing to obey traffic signals then it's a small amount.
I'm sorry cyclists invade your world but give them some time and space and you'll only lose a few seconds getting to the next red light.
